And this is the weirdest thing ... as far as I am concerned: I absolutely love Morrison's Doom Patrol. I think it is his best work ever.  But I just can't get into the Invisibles.  I couldn't when it was coming out, and I tried again just two weeks ago, and it is not happening.  I get the similarity, but somehow ...

Completely agree and that's a very good point. Almost as if the fact that Doom Patrol came with a certain template and Morrison decided to stay within that template introduced a type of discipline into his run that I think his writing generally benefits from. (I think his X-Men run also nails that perfect balancing act of staying true to the template while experimenting within those boundaries).  IMO, that's when Morrison is at his best.

While I enjoyed the Invisibles, I do prefer Morrison's Doom Patrol run. I think you nailed the reasons why.

This plus the new printing of the New X-men Omnibus are going to be a colossal amount of Morrison for me to get through. Thumbs Up

What?!
I stupidly bought the trades thinking it wasn't getting a reprint. Damn it!

As much as I love Grant there are only so many times I can justify spending all that money on comics I already own. Or are there.......?    Whistle

Picked up the Invisibles omnibus at the comic shop today.

I didn't buy it, just literally picked it up to see how heavy it is. Bloody hell, what a monster!

It looks great though. I will have to get it eventually but I need to buy a table to rest it on first.   Cheesy

I was hesitant after hearing it "wasn't as good as Doom Patrol" from several people (including several in this own thread) as I just read DP this year and it was fantastic.  I'm only about halfway through the first trade but I think it's wonderful so far (not quite up to the highs of DP but neither was the first trade of DP).  I caved and ordered the omnibus at half off from IST.

Excellent!
Personally I think it's much better than Doom Patrol but I love them both.

Enjoy!

Here is Invisibles next to Blankets just to show the size of this massive omnibus. My wife saw it and freaked  Roll On Floor Laughing
if you hold it up to the light you can see the outline of some of the characters on the cover, it's a pretty cool design.
