My brother in law took a last minute trip to the LCS for FCBD and he gave me the Archaia hardcover. It's an awesome read, I am going to eventually order every book in it.

I picked up the Donald Duck Family, Bongo Comics and the Archaia HC.
I wish I new about that Elvis book. I missed out on a good one.
Most importantly, I bought 4 new comics off the shelf and the Marvel Premiere Edition FF In Search of Galactus HC from their 1/2 price bin.

I got the Transformers ReGenerations book and the Archea HC. I also ended up getting dressed up as Hawkeye and hung around the LCS for a bit. It was a really busy but really good time.

Looked at what marvel was offering and it was mighty disapointing. To each there own but that spidey preview and the point one didn't seem worth it.
Also

Was anyone able to get their hands on Marble Season by Gilbert Hernandez? I looked all over hell for it, but couldn't find it anywhere.

Discovered it on a quiet night at work where I got so bored I read the cancelled books section on the Diamond Site.

I had a few more of the younger books buy gave 'em to my niece. Challengers was pretty cleaned out of the Dark Horse and other bigger stuff at almost an hour in. The sketch on the left is "Scribbly Scrabbly" from Battlepug by Mike Norton. The book on the right was a local freebie. They was other stuff but I only grabbed what looked good. If I saw a few of something I would be able to get online or that I knew was good I left it for someone else to discover.

Had a great time with the kids today.
Started at Fantasum, my local shop. The owner had a nice spread. My son picked up Adventure Time and Voltron. My daughter got the Donald Duck, Tinker Bell, Yo Gabba Gabba. The only thing I picked up was the Archia HC in case I don't get it through DCBS (the last two years my FCBD order wasn't fulfilled %100 due to the quantity of books they received). In addition to the free stuff, my daughter picked a few BOOM books, my son got a few anima titles and I picked up some back issues, costing me about $40 total.
Next we went to my back up LCS Action City, he has a smaller shop but has a great selection of toys and props. Here he gave my daughter a slew of Fraggle Rock and other kids books that weren't even FCBD comics, my son got the Avengers/Ultron and Spider Man Year One book and I passed on more free stuff. In addtion my son picked up a plastic Captain America Shield replica, my daughter got a plush Spider-Man and I put another $50 into the industry.
After a cinco de mayo lunch we had to run up north to pick my wife up some plants so we stopped in a LCS we had never been to and said high. Daughter made out here with an old 1980's Barbie and I got a few more back issues.
Totally FCBD cost me about $150 but I had a blast with my kids, and I love to see them excited in the car reading their books. It was great to see huge lines at my LCS and the cash register ringing. Most of the people were great, tons of kids laughing and only a few doucebags getting irritated by kids in the stores and trying to grab every free book on the table.

I picked up the Bongo offering, Donald Duck Family, The Censored Howard cruse, Bad medicine and The Hypernaturals. I read the latter this morning and recommend it to fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova and the other cosmic comics Abnett and Lanning wrote for Marvel.

i was all around disappointed with marvel's fcbd book. using a reprint from OVER A YEAR AGO as a free book is just lazy and borderline insulting to the companies that take the time to produce original content for the event. it's made worse when you consider that archaia put out a HARDCOVER with ALL new content. also, there is an ad in the back for 2 marvel books that are "coming soon" that came out LAST MONTH. it just reeked of apathy.

Which Marvel comic are you talking about? I didn't pick any of them up but I remember seeing an Avengers comic and a Spider-man comic being offered. Marvel's money is in the movies these days so they may actually be apathetic about something like FCBD. However, keep in mind that the point of FCBD is to get new customers into comic shops and to introduce new readers to comics (or to encourage existing readers to try something different). Consequently, a reprint can do the job as well as something new because the audience being targeted is comprised of people who wouldn't be familiar with the material yet anyway. I remember DC using a reprint of All-Star Superman #1 as one of their FCBD offerings a few years ago and even though the series had already been completed and collected at that point, it was still one of my favorite FCBD books because I hadn't read All-Star Superman.
