Anyone up for a meet up Wednesday for dinner and drinks? I would hope it could be somewhere easy to get to via the L since I am at the mercy of mass transit.
Any ideas. Is there a comic shop downtown where we could meet up?
Bean
I was just going to celebrate my first day of vacation with a Kuma's Burger but I'd be down for something. I owe you big from that mass boat of loot from X-Mas. What are you in the mood for? All i have planned is helping my shop move into C2E2 Wednesday morning.

OK, this both is and is not a C2E2 related question. So... I like to go to cons and take comics to get signed by creators. Now, Len Wein is going to be at C2E2 and since he was so key in re-creating the X-Men in 1975, I'm thinking maybe (if I can get a minute with him) I would like him to sign my copy of Uncanny #94. OR DO I? By getting an essentially "unauthenticated" signature on a book like that, am I, in effect, defacing it/degrading its value?? Not that I want to sell it... but someday, you know, I'm gonna take the dirt nap and maybe my ungrateful children would want to sell it (damn them!). I'm told that there's no such risk with, for example, the CGC-brokered signatures on books that may hold a higher collectors' value... but I am not necessarily interested in getting this slabbed (it's maybe a 5.0, tops). What sayeth the forum?

Having a collectible book signed ABSOLUTELY lowers the value. Now there are a ton of reasons to get it signed anyway, it's all personal choice. But if you're asking about resale value, and it appears you are, signing it will reduce what it's worth, in almost all circumstances.

Well, that's that, then! Not to worry... in the interim, I found Amazing Spider-Man #161 in the long box, and it has now been added to the C2E2 pile. Thanks!

Any ideas. Is there a comic shop downtown where we could meet up? There's a Graham Crackers comic shop located at 77 E. Madison St., right in the Loop. It's easily accessible by public transportation: http://www.grahamcrackers.com/chstore.htmAs the site says, the shop is at the southwest corner of MICHIGAN Ave. & MADISON St., one block north of the Art Institute and directly across the street from Millennium Park. It's not right on the corner but it's there. You need to go to Millennium Park anyway, Bean, because that's where the "Bean" sculpture (actually titled Cloudgate) is located. Jim

Neal Adams is at the Graham Crackers from 3:45 to 5:15 pm. Also, I think there is a panel with Ivan Brunetti and others at the Art institute around 6ish? The latter is listed on the C2E2 site.
If up for a pint Thurs. Evening, give me a bell 312-206-8939. Live just south of loop.

Hey, I had a question for you con and sketch vets. I had an Invincible jam piece done at the last Dallas Comic Con and I planned to start a X-men jam piece at C2E2. Then I had a slightly more ambitious plan but not sure if it will work out. I want to get the Iconic cover below re-created using the jam piece method of using several different artists. I was thinking about trying to get someone to do the lead of the piece which would be Magneto and then get someone to do Jean in the very back of the piece so the rest of artists will be able to clearly see how much space they have to work with. Do you guys think this is something can be done? Also, do you think its too much to ask of guys doing sketches? I don't want to be a pain in the ass. I would obviously bring a copy of the cover with me. Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated.
Xmenjimlee by lawrenceofdallas, on Flickr Also, this X-men issue was my first comics so that's the main reason I want to get this done.

money talks, looks like fun. The only thing I would change is Prof X's chair. I hated that thing you may want to block out some of the figure areas with blue line. nothing detailed just a faint circle to denote where the figure will lie.

I think artists are usually cool with jam pieces. I would say though, that having them do a recreation like that where you're asking for full figures posed, is going to be much more expensive and slower going than some of the 'head shot' jam pieces you've seen a lot of us do in recent cons.

I was worried about that exact thing. I figured I would end up paying top dollar and try to get someone top notch to do say the Magneto, Cyclops, and Wolverine then since the piece isn't on a huge a piece of paper the other figures wouldn't be as large and wouldn't cost as much. I also told myself that I can just get two of the figures done at C2E2 and this would be a piece I would have get done over a long period of time and several different shows.
