REPRESENT WOOD! Diss Trimpe you get punched in your damn life box!
Mad props to all, this was a great episode minus the awkward Tomio moment.
1. Arc I wished would not have existed: CountdownComing off
52, DC was on fire to me, and
Countdown and the whole buildup to FC IMHO handicapped Morrison, who through only his sheer greatness was able to still ball out and produce the greatest event sans
Unity in comic book history. I didn't get that entire ending of
Countdown, along with the Starlin Death of the New Gods, and how it helped set up
Final Crisis.
I almost wish FC just kind of happened w/o
Countdown at all, just Morrison's
Batman run.
2. Character Debut All TimeChris's pick of Dazzler is great. I'm a huge fan and loved the era where she an Longshot were in
Uncanny. She has one of the great new costume debuts in
Dazzler 28 (the great Blue one) with the sweet yellow cover.
LOVE Cable. People, we have to take it back. For a minute Cable might have been the second most popular mutant character in an era where if you're weren't X-Related or ASM, you were second class. Remember the speculation issue about his first "baby Nathan" appearance"? Hot.
My favorite character debut ever is Storm Shadow.
G.I. Joe #21? Get the fuck out of here, the coldest issue ever.
3. Character Debut Last 10 YearsFantomex, people. Let's be real.
VALIANT is a reboot. As far as we know, the old stuff didn't happen. This is the best way because there have been a couple of reboots with Acclaim that were the suck. There's a lot of terrible stories that occured that most people didn't read or don't remember, so there is no clean break (plus, Shadowman is dead) point.
4. Finished/backmatter Stories I would like to have seen DEFIANT's
Schism. DEFIANT was GOOD shit.
Chris, Galactus/Transformers! Hot. Who would draw it?
5. Classic Creator SleepageI honestly never really went through that because the first creator whose name I knew was McFarlane. By that time most of the classic were just a mass, not individuals to me and I didn't differentiate. I will say I don't really get Byrne at all. I really don't give a shit about his Superman and think it whackified the character. He's slightly before my time though, and really Byrne was not on my pull list until
Nextmen.
6. Story ShockStrife/Cable was that ill shit!
For me it wasn't one moment. If you read the glory that was the VALIANT line previous, then read
Rai #0, I was just shocked and in awe of the ambition that a publisher put on the table. You have to appreciate how VALIANT was set up, telling a story from two points in the timeline IN real time.
Rai# 0 was like pre-genesis AND revelations, and instead of hyping events that occur they put the it on themselves to make the journey the selling point, having already given you conclusions to characters you already knew and loved, and the origins of characters you would love.
Chris, true dat. Character death is just stupid at Marvel and DC. I get why, but it shows the lack of faith they have in their "creators".
7. Character who shouldn't have been backSame thing I said in previous episode thread: Norman Osborne. His role doesn't need him. That could have been ANYONE. It could have been Tomax and Xamot and been hella better. What's worse is that they still apparently sell well, otherwise they'd stop doing the shit. I'm ready for the reign of Ibn al Xu'ffasch.
8. Reboot any book.Creative team. What would be different.Saw Gail Simone mention this recently.
Sea Devils. Give me Francesco Francavilla on the art and give the mic to Paul Dini, who proved he can knock out one-and-dones with TEC.
9. Creator still living, want to meet. Not being a dick but I'm really not this type of dude. I'm just not wired like that. I'm a big fan of a lot of creators but I don't see the real point of meeting one unless they were hawties looking to buy a bar out. I'm just not suited to be a mega fan. I can't think of anyone in any field that would cause me to even cross the street to meet unless there was some reason to do so.
10. One book from the Dead.I kind of miss
Nextwave. I'm sure there's some book from my childhood I'd kick myself for forgetting, but there is this group of semi-recent books from Marvel that were cancelled that were IMHO their best shit.
11. Favorite era (I think that was the question).Coppers/Modern. G.I. Joe is just too awesome.
12. Criminally Underrated artist/writerAll of the ones all of you named are great ones.
I also think there are names we shouldn't forget like Ben Edlund, who has gone on to other projects, but his Tick was AMAZING. Not sure a Denys Cowan ever got the credit his talent deserved. Totleben was scary good before his eye issue. People,
Miracleman looks like a MODERN book.
I'd give a special nod to J.J. Jackson who very much was responsible for the visual ambiance of VALIANT and later DEFIANT. We just NOW are giving colorists their credit, but J.J. was creating universes back then.
To me Mark Gruenwald is elite and he doesn't seem considered as such compared to other creators working on Marvel runs of his time.
Colorado? That's on the Tomi list of possible destinations.
The Vincebon Supremacy made fun of my tweets!

Holidays ruined! Tomio #yearfail at the buzzer

In my defense, my twitter actually has very tight continuity, it's just that I'm often the only one that is aware of all of or any of the threads!

This is a cause of sadness

I wouldn't think it possible given how many responses you gave, but I agree with ALLADIS
