Stupid question for you guys, I recently started and am hanging out in Riverwood having just gotten the Dragon Claw back for Lucen, which I promptly stole back after getting paid, think I have a problem but that is for another time.  So I am hanging out with Alvor learning some 'smithing and upgrading my weapons.  One of the tasks is to make a hide helmet but I can't figure out how to do that.  I walk over to use the tanner but unlike the previous tasks I don't see an option to select to craft the helmet, and I think I have enough leather.  I would like to finish up this minor thing before heading out of town, any idea what I am not doing right?

You have to use the forge to craft things. The tanning rack is to make leather and leather strips.

The tanner is for making leather out of hides and pelts.  Once you have the leather, you need to head over to the blacksmith forge, which is where you actually make weapons and armor.

 Roll On Floor Laughing

This is hilarious because it's true. My two older sons were back to school yesterday while our preschooler and I had the day off, so we joined the Mrs. on a trip to the mall, whereby we looked for "black comfy boot"  Shifty Eyes

 Shifty Eyes

BUT, as a bad ass wife that she is, upon returning from the mall trip, as a reward for my diligence and good humor, my wife told me I had the rest of the day to play Skyrim  Rock Horns

I proceeded to clean out some Redoubts, beat the tar out of Red Eagle, curry lots of favors in Markarth, and then bounce out heading for my attempt at slaying my 2nd dragon.

What whattttttttttttttttt?!?!?

I played for a few hours yesterday. I'm doing the Mage College Quests. As a Barbarian I don't think I fit in with the schools curriculum somehow.

My response to all of their requests is to chop everyone's head off with a Battleaxe. The last boss is giving me a hard time, I had to look at the wikia to see how to beat him. Still haven't yet but soon.

The bad news: been fighting a cold this weekend, and still feel pretty trashy today, so have to stay home from work.

The good news: Skyrim.  All.  Freaking.  Day.

Related to this, I realized I may be too giving. Since I wanted to concentrate on being an archer and using dual one-handed swords, I keep having Lydia hold all my other weapons. Problem is, I now have four kick ass staffs, including one I got from a Hargraven that does 40 damage like a bomb to people you attack. So what I realized has been happening the last few days is I've made Lydia this hard charging tank and she's been decimating Forsworn and other baddies left and right. Good for me, sure, but it's keeping me from being able to level up my OWN fighting skills quickly.

I need to buy a house pronto and stash some of this loot at my crib so I can get back into the melee.

Lydia does do some major damage when you give her two staffs.  Although I had to take them back from her because now I have a dog traveling with me and she doesn't have good aim.  After every fight, she would start blasting away and set the dog on fire, then after the baddies were dead, the dog would turn around and attack Lydia.  She would then proceed to kill the dog.

Anyone traveling as either a
vampire or werewolf?

I'm curious about whether or not it makes sense to do either. My main issue, frankly, is that I've set off completing the Companions Quests and am not sure I want to become a werewolf. I understand there's a way to reverse the process, but I'm not sure if it's very hard to do as I haven't tried yet.
Thoughts?

I contracted Vampirism and it was easy to get rid of with a "Cure all Diseases" potion.  Said potion is easy to get at most Apothacaries.  I have a friend who turned Werewolf and he says its awesome, unless you turn inside a town and then everyone tries to kill you.

I am a werewolf, but have never really used it.  I got stuck as a Vampire during my Oblivion playthrough and it was freakin' TERRIBLE.  I had to buy DLC to cure myself of it.  Not sure if Vampirisim in Skyrim is any more viable.

I have heard it is even worse once you hit stage 4.

Werewolf is okay really since it doesn't have too many negative effects

You have the option to cure it as you continue with the Companion quests and it's not hard.  Also although it's kinda cool to turn to werewolf, you scare off your companions that travel with you and you can't pick up any loot while turned so I never used it after I got it and cured myself as soon as the option presented itself.

What I'm asking though is if I
turn (i.e., continue with the Companions Quests), will Lydia and all m sweet ass loot bounce before I can cure myself? Or can you effectively cure yourself immediately?

My wife is starting to hate it.  It's been years since I wanted to play a game above most things, and right now I have a nasty case of bronchitis and she's been BEGGING me to go to bed early and rest up, but I keep finding a way to stay in the media room until the wee hours.

No you'll keep what you have.  You only have to turn once for the quest line.  I never turned again after that and then cured myself once the option became available.

I was up to 3 in the morning the other night playing, luckily I have been working from home lately since my daughter was born so I didn't have to motivate too early but I got the inevitible question when I woke up - "I thought you said you were going to bed early?"

Well, you see, ummmm, Skyrim, and ahhh this Dragon Claw,  and you see I was just helping this guy out, then I started blacksmithing, and well next thing I know it was 3 am.   Shifty Eyes

Wasn't a very strong argument then I put the game on in front of her and she immediately stopped in her tracks and said "wow, you're right, that is a beautiful game"  Yes  She then scolded me for sneaking around and stealing from people...

Thanks guys,  Rock Horns

I figured since it was a hide helmet the tanner would be the thing to use, I will check out the forge tonight
