I. Hate. Markarth. It's the suck.
Some of the cities are gawwwwd awful.
Who wants to live in Winterhold? I mean DAMN. Awesome loot to be had on the thievery tip in the college though.
And Windhelm? My gods that's a boring ass city.
Come on, bro. To be fair, it sounds like Winterhold used to be a much nicer place, before the cataclysmic event that sank most of the city. I have to agree, though. Windhelm is craptastic.

This weekend, I polished off the civil war quests. I gotta say, I was a bit underwhelmed with this one. Each quest was basically identical, so it was very repetitive. I did like giving Ulfric his due, though. I chose to side with the Imperials because
1) Ulfric is a friggin' racist 2) Ulfric was planning on invading Whiterun, the place I've come to call home 3) Ulfric seems juuuuuuuuuust a bit off his rocker

I haven't decided who to join b/c they both seem vile. But you're making a strong case for me to join the Legion. Thing is, though, I really don't like those Thalmor punk bitches. They sent a hit squad after me.

Yeah, I'm not fan of the Thalmor either, but they didn't seem to play a role in the civil war quests. I feel like I stuck it to the Thalmor during the mages guild stuff.

I joined the Stormcloaks as the Legion pretty much tried to behead me during the opening of the game.

So I've played for two days now and this thing is crazy. I keep not making decisions because I don't want to mess up something later in the game. Im a Redgaurd but still trying to pin down what to be. There's no clear cut classes in the game which I think is great but I've been hesitant to put any skill points into any tree until I pick a weapon style. So far I've been switching between one handed mace and shield and mace and spell. Both in heavy armor but I'm not sure if that's restricting the spell casting. It appears I will eventually be able to enchant heavy armor with spell casting bonuses. Im in the middle of the companion quests now and have spent lots of time on the miscellaneous questst. I gave up attempting to gather every item I could early in the game which is tough because other RPGs depend on that. All the crazy materials you can use to smith, enchant, cook or create potions with I assume you can buy from vendors later so I gave up harvesting everything I find. I seem to spend most my time running around discovering me areas. It I'm loving it so far.

My wife actually watched me play for 20 minutes yesterday (kids were all cleaning up their play room and apps were cooking for our Super Bowl prep. She smiled at me, kissed me on the cheek and said, "I totally get why this would seem really cool to you."

The other day, my wife said something to the effect of "You didn't buy Skyrim for PS3, otherwise I'd be watching you play it." Uh. Whoops.

Not to my Nord it wasn't, he firmly believes in the liberation of Skyrim from the Legion. Him and Ulfric became boys during that cart ride.

I haven't chosen Imperial or Stormcloak yet...but I'm intrigued by joining the Legion because I wonder if I would get to fight Ulfric? I see in the blurbs during saves that Ulfric killed the rule of Skyrim allegedly using a Dragon Shout. I would LOVE to go head to head with another Dragonborn.
Now even sure this is how things would go, but the potential has me leaning toward joining the Legion.

Ha, this just make me want to replay the opening scene, after all the time I've spent in Skyrim.

Yes, I never noticed before but in the opening scene Ulfric is gagged.

Your armor type does not hinder spell casting, so long as you enchant them the proper way. Early on in the game you may be wearing a miss mash of heavy and cloth because you don't have the right enchants, but once you do your ebony armor can have just as much Destruction damage bonus as anything. Really it will just effect how you cast magic; wading into a pack of baddies and unleashing double fisted fireballs and taking next to now damage is pretty damn satisfying. Except for soul gems, all my crafting I've power leveled using reagents I bought. I pick up alchemy stuff because they weigh next to nothing, but I didn't worry about much else. If you smith, enchant that item, then sell it, you will be making money hand over fist.

Good to know. I discovered last night that it was better to enchant, sharpen and smith anything that I find, then sell it. Helps raise the skill and make some more gold. If you spec in duel wielding magic does that allow just casting two spells or can you cast a spell and use a sword at the same time? Travis

One thing I didn't do in the beginning, but I would highly recommend doing to newer players...grab all those "useless" clothing items you find. I never grabbed shoes, hats, boots, clothes, fine clothes, etc...because I figured I would never wear them.
But they're light (0.5 to 1lb in most cases) and you can use them to up your enchanting big time. You won't fetch much $$ for them, but I rapid fired dozens of them in the enchanter, and then sold them for a few septims each, but you can really get Enchanting up to important levels that way.

I finished the Main Quest a couple days ago. Lots of fun for the parts of the quest that weren't 20 minutes of talking.
Tip: Before you go to Dragonsreach to capture a dragon, make sure you clear out your inventory to exactly what you need for battle. Drop off anything that will weigh you down except you primary weapon, armor and a few health/magika potions.
There is TONS of loot and weapons to be had in the last stages, but you won't be able to fast travel to a spot where you can store stuff.
I'm going to move on to the Mage & Dark Brotherhood quests before I finish the Civil War now.
Level 51 and killing stuff like a boss.
