I heard the novels got weird. I believe the show is only based on the first book so it can get weird in a totally different way.
Both the first & second novels & seasons parallel each other somewhat. There are elements that sneak into the show but are vastly different. I recomend the first two books. Novel three gets ...MAJOR SPOILER!!!

re Skyrim: I learned yesterday that you shouldn't try to kill a chicken in town on a whim The only solution is to slaughter the entire town. They loves their chickens, they do. Luckily they killed me before an auto save so I didn't have to live with the mistake.

Great Episode. Loved the Skyrim talk! Its the best game I've played since Final Fantasy 7.
I liked the small mention of the Game of Thrones comic. My go-to art guru Tommy is drawing that book so I got a lot of love for it. I've never read the books or seen the TV show so its all new to me.
Vince you made the Woodring books sound so intriguing so i'm going to add them to my ever increasing list of books to buy.

I'm glad you are enjoying it; regardless of the format, it's a great story. I just don't get why they are doing a straight translation of the book to a comic. With the books AND the show, it' seems like just static noise to me. Martin clearly loves comics, I wish they had done some other story, or another facet of the overarching story in the book.

Referring to the Jim Woodring part in the episode, I was fortunate enough, to attend a lecture/panel Mr. Woodring gave at the San Diego Comicon a few years ago. At this panel with a digital projector, he discussed and shared a lot about himself: from his early years prior to his creative career; how he didn't know at one time that it was unusual to see "uterus-shaped" hallucinations; the time he ran out of class after seeing his giant frog-face hallucination; working with Jack Kirby and Gil Kane; a dissection of one of first oil paintings about Jesus Christ and a Bear both coming to a point of enlightenment after fighting on top of a mountain; and a few dissections panel-by-panel of his comics as well as motivation for the characters. All in all, it was extremely fascinating presentation which I was glad I attended. What I think the listeners might find interesting regarding the controlled wavy lines that adds the texture to his backgrounds in his drawings that Vince B was describing in EOC episode 194 was those are (or possible were) words. Woodring showed in a series of slide at that panel I attended in Sand Diego, that he would just start writing these long cursive diary-type entries that would be all connected on one line and he would incorporated this text into his drawings. Woodring at this panel, showed numerous slides that illustrated the evolution of his technique over the years: starting of early (unpublished) sketchbooks where you could easily read what was written, to the finished high polished look his art has today which is totally illegible and incomprehensible as anything other than visual texture. The last five minutes of the panel was a Q/A, which luckily some girl asked Woodring what he was writing about in the backgrounds? Mr. Woodring replied, he didn't know, probably some type of "hatespeak" or angry or loathsome rant. I hope someone found the idea of this technique as interesting as I did, I have found no reference to him using this technique on the internet anywhere and was familiar with Jim Woodring's work prior to attending the panel and never thought that the lines were anything other than lines. Hopefully this post makes sense, since I'm trying to beat a virus and my whole body is aching.

Vince! Nova did a pretty cool show about the whole pluto planetary status thing. Hosted by Neil Degrasse Tyson. You should check it out. Might make you feel better.

Vince! Nova did a pretty cool show about the whole pluto planetary status thing. Hosted by Neil Degrasse Tyson. You should check it out. Might make you feel better. OH YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT!! THAT'S what I wanted to chime in for!! Man, MOTHAFUCK those egghead bastards who decided Pluto's not a planet!! Pluto has been in the sky longer than all the generations of humans that inevitably produced these wankers, and here they come with their newfangled definitions. Well I got a definition for them; "The definition of planet, since the word was coined by the ancient Greeks, has included within its scope a wide range of celestial bodies. Greek astronomers employed the term asteres planetai (ἀστέρες πλανῆται), "wandering stars", for objects which apparently move over the sky. Over the millennia, the term has included a variety of different objects, from the Sun and the Moon to satellites and asteroids." So by this definition alone, PLUTO IS A FUCKING PLANET To be fair; The issue of a clear definition for planet came to a head in 2005 with the discovery of the trans-Neptunian object Eris, a body larger than the smallest then-accepted planet, Pluto. In its 2006 response, the International Astronomical Union (IAU), recognised by astronomers as the world body responsible for resolving issues of nomenclature, released its decision on the matter. This definition, which applies only to the Solar System, states that a planet is a body that orbits the Sun, is massive enough for its own gravity to make it round, and has "cleared its neighbourhood" of smaller objects around its orbit. Under this new definition, Pluto and the other trans-Neptunian objects do not qualify as planets. The IAU's decision has not resolved all controversies, and while many scientists have accepted the definition, some in the astronomical community have rejected it outright. -definitions gotten from Wiki
