I absolutely love this ongoing title so far. Its about a secret unit of covert operatives that is based on a  real organization once known as the Intelligence Support Activity. It has that nice blend of the original Mission Impossible and even GIJOE but much more realistic. All the tech they use is tech that exists in the real world. Its only one issue in so far so you can jump right in.The art by Mitch Gerads is beautiful too it fits the world wide scope of the book.

I picked this up and enjoyed it. The second issues comes out tomorrow so we'll see if it builds on the characters a little bit. It feels a bit like mission impossible  Tongue but a lot more serious. I noticed they even have a twitter feed hinting at stuff https://twitter.com/#!/TheActivity

Yeah, I think the delays took a little bit of steam out of the series at the end. I also wan't really blown away by the ending. Not sure if he changed it up so it could keep going as an on-going or if that was just the original ending.

Hopefully this won't de-rail this thread but just a heads up that if you liked Tonci Zonjic's art in WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? He is the artist on LOBSTER JOHNSON: THE BURNING HAND #1 (OF 5) which comes out tomorrow  Rock Horns

When a tribe of phantom Indians start scalping policemen, Hellboy‘s crime-fighting hero Lobster Johnson and his allies arrive to take on these foes and their gangster cronies!

* From the pages of Hellboy.
* First Lobster Johnson story in four years!
* Year of monsters variant cover by Mike Mignola. Writer: Mike Mignola & John Arcudi
Artist: Tonci Zonjic
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Cover Artist: Dave Johnson

I thought that the first issue was very good.  Felt the artwork worked really well with the story and the reader had a good intro to all the characters.  Each character had a distinctive look with enough treads started for a longer story.  I got a Queen and Country vibe from it.  I hope that they will keep with it being more realistic and build on these characters.  I got the first issue as a try out and when it gets to be a trade then it will be a buy.

I liked issue #1 quite a bit.  I'm not going to anoint anything to be "great" after a single issue, but it is promising and I'm happy I bought it.  Definitely hits a niche that is underserved in comics and I think Edmondson sweats the details which if very important to a techno-espionage comic.  Those types of stories fall apart for me if the writers start screwing up technical details about the hardware.

I am a fan Mitch Gerads but Didn't like this at all. Just not my cup of tea. Mitch's work was good and looked great I'm not a fan of war/covert ops books.

I can understand that but I know Mitch Gerads and he and Nathan are busting their behinds to keep this book on time.

I had a chance to chat with him for awhile at the signing yesterday and it sounds like they're doing pretty good on planning for time.  He said, issue 3 is done, 4 is pretty much done.  He is committed to getting it out on time and they are working in guest artists occasionally to ensure they have enough time.  I think Mitch said issue 5 or 6 uses a guest artist, and then he's back the issue after.  This is filling my Queen & Country itch, so I am all in.  For some reason I was thinking this was a mini or series of minis but it is actually ongoing which sounds perfect to me.  Sounds like these guys are really busting it to ensure it is accurate, on time, and a lot of fun.  Highly recommended if you're into espionage/special ops type stories.

...and did y'all notice, color assists by artist extraordinaire and fellow forum poster, Mr. Kyle Latino!! Just picked up the 2nd issue and I'm digging it. If you are into the spec ops stuff and you haven't given this book a shot, do yourself a favor and haul ass down to the comic shop or comixology and pick it up - well worth your coin.

Nathan Edmonson credited Jeff Powell with the look and packaging of the book, too.  So big UPS to him as well.  I absolutely love the feel of the book and the digital effects Mitch does.  If you go to Nathan's website, you can see some of the upcoming covers that haven't come out yet - they're absolutely amazing.  This series has replaced Who is Jake Ellis for my "can't wait to read" fix.
