It's hard to believe, but I really didn't read Hulk as a kid, despite growing up loving the character. I mean, I followed his exploits in the trading cards, as well as any guest appearances he made in whatever big event or regular series I was reading at the time (Onslaught, Deadpool #4, Iron Man: Heroes Reborn). For me, it was really all about the Bill Bixby series.

Maybe because of that, the first two OHCs of Bruce Jones's Hulk run are my quintessential comics Hulk. They captured the lonely fugitive on the run, mixed with the dark force of nature presentation of the Hulk, with a dash of nifty X-Files-type conspiracy mystery, and the calm, meditative, beatific Banner we saw in both the Incredible Hulk and Avengers movies. It's just the best of all worlds.

After that, I do love Planet Hulk for its story, though it feels sort of a far cry from my ideal Hulk.

I love that Shatterstar's sword is a trophy.   Hulk hates Liefeld creations

Also that time he got mad and smashed something. I like that issue.  Hulk

This joking qoute is the reason I cant get down with most hulk outside of planet hulk. As a character he is even more one note than Wolverine. I think the movie used him right, less as a character and more as a weapon in the
avengers arsenal.

There is about a decades worth of Peter David penned Hulk issues that would say otherwise.

Also: Wolverine, one note?  No

 Hearts

me too, I really enjoyed the Jones run on the Hulk.  Planet Hulk was probably the best story of recent times.  I read a lot of the Hulk growing up but somehow lost all my comics  Angry  (Hulk ones that is) during moves to college and back.  So I have been getting the Peter David Visionaries titles so I can reread those stories since that is the time I was reading him.   There are some great ones in there but a reread is in order for my old and foggy brain.

I'm slowly rereading all of the David stuff. Man...it's good. I'm currently on the 380s. Keown's work is fantastic. David is the master of serial story telling. I think he's probably the most consistent Marvel writer out there.

I'll take it a step further and say that I think he is one of the more complex characters in the marvel universe.
