So a few years ago I read a couple of Invincible trades thought they were good and put them down.  A couple years after that I found the first two Library Editions for mega cheap.  I snatched them up and loved them.  The third Library edition just came out and I loved that too.  Also, I only get Hellboy in Library Edition as well.  I have all four, but haven't read the fourth one yet.  About half of the third Hellboy and all of the fourth will be new to me.  I also snagged the Simonson Thor Omni sight unseen.  Haven't finished it but have loved it.  Oh yeah, and the first time I read Allstar Superman was in Absolute.

My question are there any comics you wait all the way until the most premier edition to read?

(ignore this post) I'm in a weird spot where singles feel too fast, flimsy and disposable and Omnibi are just too fat and unwieldly. It is trades all the way for me, except for like 3 titles.

Yep...

Invincible and Walking Dead are the two big ones.  But... when Vertigo started doing the Deluxe Hardcover treatment, I decided to wait out both Fables and 100 Bullets as well.  It's tough but I'm already committed.

I can see this, but I think Image and Dark Horse Library editions are perfect.  Oversized but not so thick you can't read the center of a two page spread.  Simonson Thor has this problem.

I only buy invincible, chew and walking dead in the big hardcovers but I have friends who borrow me the issues/trades while I wait

I had never read Promethea before and gave it a try early last year.  After like 6 issues I bought the Absolute editions.  That is a book that was made to be published in that format.  The art is really showcased, and most of it flows over the facing pages.  I really don't think it should be read any other way.

BPRD, Starman and 100 Bullets.  If they start doing Scalped in over-sized hardcovers I'll probably upgrade my trades to that.

Due to still being fairly new to comics, and getting into them at an age where I can afford buying comics, I read a lot of books for the first time in these high-end editions.

To pick one, I'll say IRREDEEMABLE.

I wanted to read Irredeemable and even bought a couple issues deciding I was just going to jump on.  I then stopped myself from reading the issues with the intent of starting from the beginning with the trades.  Just when I was about to buy the trades the Definitive Edition Vol. 1 was solicited and I got it.  It's an oversized slipcased hardcover.

If I don't own something already and have the option for an absolute/omnibus edition, I will go that route every time.

Walking Dead HCs finally made the decision to wait for 12 issue hunks of the story once a year now after reading issue #84, Fables HCs started w/ trades first then got rid of most of them but still keep current w/ more recent tpbs & issues, Hellboy Library Editions, Batman Long Halloween Absolute (yes, I never read it before until then), LOEG Omnibus, Ultimate Spider Man HCs, Lost Girls, Jeff Smith's Bone, Barry Ween, Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing HCs I never read it before until the HCs were announced, Frank Miller & Bendis Daredevil Omnibus except for the last 5 issues of Bendis run & Miller/JRJR's Daredevil Man without Fear miniseries.

None, but with a caveat.....

I'm 100% single issues, but the only comics that are "allowed" to stay in my home long term are those that get bound into custom hardcovers.  And....those are kinda like Omnibi in some ways.  So all of my rereading is in that format.

It would definitely be cheaper to buy the nice collected editions than to buy all the single issues and then bind them though.

i don't REALLY consider the vertigo deluxe editions in the same category as an absolute or omni, but for the sake of conversation, here are the books i only have in omnibus/deluxe/absolute editions:

starman omnibi
new frontier absolute
y the last man deluxes
alan moore's swamp thing deluxes
joss' astonishing x-men omni
the rocketeer complete deluxe edition

there's a few others that i have just in hardcover (oversized or not), but those aren't really in the same category.

It's been so long since I picked up any Hellboy trades I've went with the Library Editions. So nice. Never read Starman so it's Omniboo all the way. Fables is a Deluxe but I'm counting it with having read an issue it's all deluxe all the time.
