They're not even close to each other! Unless you're doing some shape-shifting deal.

To be fair, it was twenty years between the two comparisons
& I have been shape changing.... very slowly.
The haircut was fast, but the slow shame of the bathroom scale continues.

So if a customer asks me "Which dish is better, Entree A or Entree B?", I acommodate.  I will describe both and explain why Entee A is superior... To which they almost ALWAYS say, "I'll take Entree B."

Why even F'n bother asking me?!?!?   Hulk

It happens all the time.

When I worked in a video store I figured out the code.
"What's good?" really meant "What's brand new?"
When I felt like being an asshole I'd answer "Citizen Kane."
(No one ever took me up on Citizen Kane.)
When asked "What's this movie about?" if you want a long glazed stare,
you tell them.  I rented a lot more movies saying "It's Bruce Willis & he's a cop,"
rather than the quick plot synopsis that's already on the back of the box.
Only one customer ever called me on that.

In my music tech career, so many times guys asked my opinion of Item X.
At first I would actually research what would work best given their styles, existing equipment, & budgets,
but then I realized that if they said Item X, they were going to buy Item X.
They just wanted me to find them a good price.

Short answer: Most people just want validations of decisions they have already made,
but you don't always know what those decisions are.

This. People ask me for camera advice from time to time but rarely go with what I think is best for them. I used to tailor my answers based on the type of person that they are but most people just want what's popular. Nowadays, unless they're serious about photography (like Mr Pat Loika who I've been having some back and forth emails with regarding camera gear), I don't bother wasting my time with them and just tell them what they wanna hear.

Fuck that.  I answer the question they asked and then laugh at them when they realize they made a mistake by not listening to me.

Interesting Tongue Maybe I'll just give very succinct answers so as to not waste my time too much.

Them: What camera should I get?
Me: Camera X
Them: Why?
Me: It's good.

Should've just done that yesterday when I got asked Doh!

One thing that baffles the hell out of me is the negative reaction I get when I tell people I don't like the Nolan Batman movies. Everyone acts like these films are perfect works of art and I find them anything but. The first  movie had no redeeming qualities to me. A friend at work convinced me to watch his DVD of The Dark Knight and the minute the "Batman voice" came out, my wife and I laughed so hard that we had to pause the DVD. For me, Batman works best animated (B:TAS, Batman Beyond, The Batman and the animated movies).

At work, yes.  Because I usually have a stake in the answer.
For casual side advice it depends how close we are.
My close friends get it straight.  Like "You're a drunken prick."
Others: whatever it takes to make the drunken prick leave quickly, peacefully, & for a long time.
Thinking Maybe I do that at work, too.

I'm baffled (maybe I'm confused or ignorant) at how over and over again I keep hearing politicians tell me that Situation X in the Middle East is causing oil/gas prices to rise yet I learned years ago that most of the oil/gas we use in the US comes from Canada.   Thinking

I have a laundry list...

(Just off the top of my head)

-Network television shows
-Reality shows like Mob Wives, and Real Housewives of...
-Any show about a pawn shop, alligator hunters, auction hunters, moonshiners, lobster fishermen and ice road truckers.
-NASCAR
-Golf
-Lars Von Trier movies
-People who bitch about the Kardashians, and then proceed to tell me story that was in the news about them
-Why marijuana is still illegal, while alcohol and cigarettes are perfectly fine with most people
-People who text while driving
-twitter
-V-neck shirts
-Fans of mediocre SEC football teams like Kentucky and Ole Miss who live vicariously through the achievements of teams like LSU and Alabama by bragging how strong the SEC conference is.
-Americal Idol style TV shows
-Anyone who pays money to see an Adam Sandler movie.
-Celebrities who lecture me about helping the poor and being more eco-friendly, yet still live in giant mansions.
-People who think Family Guy is funny.

That's all I got for now.  I'm sure I can come up with more

Karma. I love that long ass movie.

I meant modern ones though. Will there ever be a war in which somthing like that is used again? Scuttle a few and give the money to me if there's no other use for it.

Huh?

Yeah I don't get it either. I mean yeah if you're only watching the shitty ones I could understand but just as many of my favorite shows are network shows compared to cable stuff.

I love Lars Von Trier but I can see how most of his films would baffle the average filmgoer.
