I constantly come across interesting kickstarter campaigns that l'm just too damn po' to donate to, but I still want to do something to help them get made. Call it karma. I know I'll someday be in their position, so I wanna put as much of that positive supportive energy into the cosmos as possible, so I have a chance of receiving it in kind when my time comes. And so... this thread. Post here the stuff that looks so cool you think it's worth paying money for, even if you can't pay. (and, of course, if you yourself have a kickstarter you're trying to fund, feel free to post that here as well -- though, understand that your opinion of said kickstarter will be considered somewhat... biased ) ( ) First up... THE NEW KINDRead about this on io9, and I'm really damn interested in seeing it come to fruition. In short, it's an animated futuristic sci-fi love story with a touch of the metaphysical. The creator has an interesting plan for its financial sustainability, and the concept is right up my alley. Here's the poster: Here's the synopsis:Darvin and Yuka (17 and 18) fall in love but have never physically met — a psychic link connects them. They are The New Kind; The next link in Humanity's evolution. If they ever find each other, it will cause a chain reaction, instantly transforming all young people into god-like beings. But before that can happen, Darvin and Yuka must survive an evil force hunting them. Here's the io9 article (with pitch video): http://io9.com/5886692/the-most-gorgeous-animated-series-weve-seen-in-a-long-timeAnd here's the Kickstarter page (with more artwork!): http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/729054704/the-new-kind?ref=recommended

Kazu Kibuishi is one of my favorite cartoonists of all time due in no small part to this comic... DAISY KUTTER: THE LAST TRAINIt's hard to express how much I love this book. From its sly, resourceful heroine to its steampunk western setting, and featuring some of the most kinetic and engaging art work I've yet seen, this is one of those hidden gems you feel lucky to have discovered. Now Kibuishi is bringing the long-out-of-print story back just this once, and lemme tell ya... you'd be an idiot not to add it to your collection. Here's the Synopsis:Daisy Kutter is a retired bank robber and legendary gunfighter who has decided to open a dry goods store in the small town of Middleton. The sheriff, her ex-boyfriend Tom McKay, tries to recruit her to join him on the other side of the law, but she isn't quite ready to move on. When Daisy loses everything she owns in a high-stakes poker tournament, she is offered a job from the stranger who cleans her out at the table. He wants to hire her to rob his train. What's the catch? He believes his vaunted robotic security system will stop Daisy in her tracks, and he wants to prove it. If she succeeds in robbing the train, she can keep the gold and have her life back... Here's the Kickstarter page (with choice panels from the book):http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/439903302/daisy-kutter-reprint-project?ref=popular

Dood! I ADORE Daisy Kutter. I don't really want physical books anymore (I'm getting rid of everything I have), but this is still tempting. Glad that he's already gotten to his goal.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1787899968/sentinels-of-the-multiverse-infernal-relics-and-en Sentinels of the MultiverseHere's the synopsis:Talked about it extensively in another thread but it is a kickstarter for 2 things... to put out a fixed up and improved 2nd edition of a great superhero board game and to put out an expansion. The game is super easy, very fun and really captures a great comic book feel with quotes from non existent issues, cool heroes and very big, threatening villains. The best part is that like Arkham Horror, it is cooperative. People join together to defeat a villain deck that plays itself. You have about 12 heroes so far and 8 villains, and I think 6 enviroments so even though it takes 30 to 50 minutes to play a game, it will be a long time before you play the same game twice. Personally I invested in this, I already own the original and love it. Also they LOVE throwing freebies at investers.

I haven't read it in years, but I do have favorable memories of it. The art was super cool. I passed over it today when I was digging through some back issues. I need to add this to my read stack.

Just giving it a bump... Sentinels Of The Multiverse has 48 hours left and it has almost reached $100,000, for a massive reward, given that it is 5 times the original goal of $20,000

Well that is over... but Cammy just posted a new kickstarter for me to go crazy over. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1940696606/sullivans-sluggers-baseball-horror-graphic-novelThe Story...Long past their former glory, the minor league Sluggers get an invitation to play a baseball game in a cursed small town. After the 7th inning stretch, the sun goes down, and the dysfunctional teammates find themselves fighting for their lives against a town of flesh-eating monsters! Now, it's up to coach Casey Sullivan to help his team escape from being the next dish in the town's terrifying feeding frenzy! Eisner & Harvey Award-winning graphic novel author Mark Andrew Smith joins forces with Eisner nominated illustrator James Stokoe for a gripping roller coaster of a graphic novel, packed with shocks, gore, and screamingly outrageous humor, when America's Favorite Past Time becomes one team's ultimate nightmare!

Man, this kickstarter shit is getting out of control! I wonder if this is a bubble waiting to burst, or if this is a new sustainable model. Some of the funds people are raising is just insane! It's really neat to see.

I kind of feel like there aren't enough interesting comics getting Kickstarted...right now there aren't THAT many campaigns of note. I've backed a few lately, and am hard pressed to find others. I'm sure I'm not alone in having a willingness to back a bunch more if they're available and the incentives and content are right.

I feel the same way. Jimmy Palmiotti has had two successful kickstarter campaigns. And some webcomics did bring in big bucks but I feel kickstarter could be a way bigger market for comic professionals.
Any medium to well known comic professional could fund any dream project they wanted as long as they're reasonable in the pricing and pledge prizes.

I passed on Smut Peddler because the price for the actual book is way too high IMHO ($50).
You get a copy at the $30 contribution level. Still kind of essspensive, but 350 pages of indie porn comix not too crazy.

Adventure game kickstarts have been on the rise because of Double Fine's amazingly successful adventure game pitch. Al Lowe and Jane Jensen (of Gabriel Knight fame) have both been successful, The Space Quest one is ongoing at the moment. My person Favourite one is currently 50% funded. The return of Tex Murphy http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora?ref=searchI love all 5 of the previous games fro Mean Street to Overseer, but Pandora Directive is my favourite. The pitch video fir the kickstarter is fantastic and really makes me want one more game.
