Good article.   I liked the info:
Quote
Starting a project is free, but Kickstarter takes 5 percent of contributions if a project is funded, and Amazon.com Inc. takes another 3 to 5 percent for processing the payments.

I thought Kickstarter & Amazon were snagging more than that.....Taxes will be the biggest chunck, depending on what kind of tax attorney they have & what write-offs a creator can manage.

Here's my friends excellent article on high-raising Kickstarter projects.

Great article, amazing how much Kickstarter campaigns have raised in just four years.

Backed!

So it's not comics but I highly recommend checking out Planetary Annihilation.  It's a Real Time Strategy game for PC's and Mac's from the guys who made Monday Night Combat and a bunch of other quality games.  I love RTS going back to the original Warcraft: Orcs vs. Humans.  This looks to be a quality game with some interesting tweaks on the genre and it's already very close to it's goal.  Definitely worth a look for anyone into RTS's.

THE PROJECTS: experimental art + comics festival in Portland

63 hrs left. great variety of rewards at a range of pledge amounts. even if you can't make to the festival itself, still totally worth backing!

Blast Furnace: Recreational Thief Volume One! by Ryan Browne.

Blast Furnace is an improv comic. It was created a page a day, an hour per page, five days a week for six months. Every work day, I would sit down with little to no idea what was going to happen on the page, I'd start the clock, and just start making it up. An hour later, I had a finished page of the story. The only thing that I started the book with was the name of the character and approximately what he looked like. I decided to break the story into six 22 to 24 page chapters, basically one a month, so that I would have to control the story and make it have actual climaxes in the narrative.

BTW, if you like "Axe Cop" you should like this.   To me it reads very similar (with more swearing).   Just weird stream-of-consciousness shit happening, one wacky thing after the next.
