Personally for me I like the finished work that comes out
And that's what's great about our hobby. I am a big process junkie. I love original art and have a wall full of it as proof. However, there are tons of people like yourself that are into the finished work. They love when the entire puzzle comes together. These books are for us process addicts.

It sounds like you got an awesome deal Rick. That Wally Wood collection is one of my favorite things in my entire house now. I love love love huge art, and I think I'd take the original black and whites of every book if I had the choice. Sorry colorists.

That's the whole point of the artist editions! Colour scans of the original art!

Not sure which Artist Edition thread to post this in, so I picked the one with the generic title Looks like we might be getting a remarqued edition of the Daredevil:Born again AE. IDW posting some teaser pics on twitter. Also a pic of what looks like acetate pages I really wish they would announce special editions at the same time so I wouldn't have to pre-order both and then sell the other one.

yeah, i didn't realize there was going to be a slipcase/autograph version. then again, i probably wouldn't shell out the extra money for it anyway.

It's always fun to check out Randy Dahlk's blog. Randy is the designer on the Artist Editions (as well as the IDW Rocketeer volumes, and the Fleck sketchbooks). Lots of good stuff there; in addition to seeing the design work, you can see some of the work in progress and rejected designers. Some of the older posts, in particular, as really interesting. He's my favorite designer in comics, and it's fun to see him getting his due. http://retrorandy.blogspot.com/

The DD Born Again edition came out today. I checked it out at Challengers and the thing is huge. I have the Romita one and thats big enough but this thing is a beast of a book. However, it is also one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed. If it wasn't for the $175 price tag, I would have lugged that thing home and had a very VERY good evening.

it's actually $125, but that doesn't change it too much, still a VERY expensive book. It is fantastically gorgeous, some seriously jaw dropping pages. the overlays are a really nice touch, i wish there was more of them.

It was $160 at my shop. Kind of hurts after the massive Heroes Con expenses, but these are like statues. I only buy one every so often. At least that's how I'm rationalizing it.

huh, well it's definitely possible that the shops are marking them up. it's $125 straight from idw, and that's what i got charged at my shop (didn't get my discount, but that's understandable, apparently the purchase price is very high on these).

Check this out.....kind of a mini-artist edition: http://www.amazon.com/Rio-Doug-Wildey/dp/1613772106/ref=sr_1_1_title_0_main?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1340917990&sr=1-1&keywords=rio+doug+wildey I originally ordered this because I'm a big fan of Wildey (he's the guy responsible for much of the design work for the animated series Jonny Quest). I did not realize until I got it & opened it up (yesterday) that the entire book (except for 10 pages) is shot from Wildey's original art, just like an Artist's Edition. While not as big as an Artist Edition, it's a HC about the size of a DC Absolute. It's really nice, Wildey tended to work in mixed media and after the 1st couple of stories, it's all color work, done in watercolor, colored pencil, oils, etc. This book even has the last story Wildey ever worked on & it is partially complete (Wildey passed away while working on it), but it is fascinating to see the various stages of work on that story, with some panels complete, some in sketch form, some midway done, etc.

Picked up my Born Again AE today. It's beautiful. Might like it more than the Spidey one have right now. It also ended up being less expensive than I was expecting it to be which was nice.
