Wow David, that's some serious damage. Hope it all works out.
But still awesome of your wife. She put up with that "awful Spiderman" on your behalf and then rocked you that excellent gift.
I will be getting the Rocketeer and Spider-man editions.

David....hope they fix this for you. That isn't some incidental dent....that's trashed.
I've had a lot of crappy stuff from the US Postal Service. My mail carrier has remarked a few times, "Gosh....you really get a lot of boxes and stuff." And he's clearly annoyed because he can't just shove those into the mailbox on the curb and has to drive up my driveway and lay them next to the garage. Of course, if there is any way he can bend or fold the box into the mailbox, he'll do THAT.
They should really be thankful for the boxes since their letter business is basically dead. I really couldn't care less if these jokers went away tomorrow and they just let UPS do it. Has anyone ever met a surly UPS employee?
I have the exact opposite experience. I never have a problem when stuff is shipped through the post office (and I get 4-5 packages a week) but UPS is frequently beat up.

Renée's money is being refunded. I ordered it from the same shop Chris ordered his copy.
We'll know in a couple days if this story ends happily ever after.

Royal Mail/UPS/other private delivery company are generally ok with my deliveries, I can only remember ever having to send one thing back to Amazon because it was damaged and it was a big scratch on a Tintin cover that looked like it had happened before it was packaged

I got a shipping notice for the Wally Wood 2nd print today. I've owned, and sold, all of the various artist editions, this is the first one I plan to keep

Depends on the carrier. My old postman used to carry all boxes up to the door and stack them carefully. Guy I currently have just tosses them near the gate. Nothing as bad as the pictured damage above, but it's only a matter of time until he leaves something out in the open on a rainy day. I've also had them fold stuff in half marked "Do Not Bend" so it could be stuffed in the mailbox out by the curb.

You and me both. I know people are loving the Romita and Mazzucchelli editions, but for the me the draftsmanship of Eisner and Wood are nearly unparalleled. Over at the MarvelMasterworks.com forum someone cited a 9/12 release date for the Eisner edition. Who knows if that is accurate though.

The poster over at MarvelMasterworks.com said that the 9/21 date actually came from IDW. I'm assuming this was something that IDW said at San Diego though I haven't actually seen that reported anywhere.

It's hard to find info on it anywhere, especially on IDW's site. I don't like the willy-nilly nature of it. It's like they're not quite sure it's going to happen.

i've generally had good luck with Amazon in Canada....except for once
Ordered the bone one volume color slipcase edition. Arrived with a ding in the corner of the slipcase, but book was fine. contacted them, and they shipped another, without waiting for me to even return the first which i thought was cool. Second one arrives, in absolutely brutal condition, far worse than the first! Called to complain about this second one, and asked for another and they said they won't ship another one! they said when two in a row have been damaged, they do an internal investigation of whether item was being packaged properly, is the carrier damaging, etc.
SO i then said what kind of discount would they give me to keep the least damaged one... they wouldn't make an offer but kind of said what kind of discount would satisfy me, and i said i'd accept a refund of 40% and they agreed!
sorry for the medium sized story but someone out there might be interested in getting a discount when the item is damaged... especially when they refuse to ship another! in my case, the damage was pretty minor! i was pretty happy! and turned about got a Manara library edition 'for free'.

How big of a ding? I ask because I'm not a real stickler for condition any more and a lot of HCs I get from Amazon have a minor corner bump & I just tend to let it slide. I'd do the same if the corner is pretty messed up, but that's not happened to me yet. I know a lot of people who send lots of stuff back because it's not really perfect, which is fine, I just don't want the hassle.

The corner at the top back of the slipcase was a bit crushed in maybe a one inch area. This did cause about a one inch rip in The covering paper also about one inch long which wasnt too bad because it was right along the edge
Yeah i agree its usually a bit of ahassle but its also a pretty pricey item so i thought it should be in good condition. Id be less concerned on my everyday reading books but this is a real collectible! Ive kept many books that had very minor damage. Anyway i was very pleased with the way it was handled in the end

Still haven't taken the plastic wrap off my Born Again artist edition. In a true test of self restraint, I've been waiting for the perfect time to dive in. And that perfect time (barring any unforeseen roadblocks) is tonight.
Countdown clock to leave work for some reading on my favorite chair at home has begun...

I got my Wally Wood artist edition this week, I can't believe how good it is.
I just started wading into the pool of collecting EC sci-fi books, which have most of the original stories from this artist edition. The print quality of the original does not do Wally Wood's art justice. His artwork is incredible. I'm really glad I got this one.

Apparently my order for a Wally Wood AE was just a "We'll try and order it when it comes out". Glad I reminded them last Friday... hopefully they got an order in early enough to get it next week. I'm gonna be pissed if I don't get one
