Hold on to your hats, folks, because this one's a weird one even by our standards... While Skype wreaks havoc with a vengeance, we top off the tank in the rickety ol' Wayback Machine and head out for a long, rambling ride through Amazing Spider-Man #300, Miller and Mazzuchelli's Born Again, Comic Confessions (including Cerebus, Camelot 3000, Black Dragon, Chris Claremont's First Flight, X-Terminators and Fallen Angels, Jon Bogdanove, and much more), Valiant both old and new, Ultraverse, Catwoman, Ted Mckeever's MONDO from Image/Shadowline, Justice League: Doom and Dwayne Mcduffie, Morrison and Quitely's Flex Mentallo (incorporating Doom Patrol, Teen Titans, Alan Moore and Don Simpson's Pictopia, Cliff Steele, and more), Rubber Blanket, Bongo Comics and the Ralph Wiggum one-shot (Sergio Aragones, Mike Kazaleh, Carol Lay, Ted May, and more), "Hawkeye's a dick!", listener email, Ghost Rider, the latest episode of the Walking Dead on TV, Rogue Trooper and Strontium Dog, Uncanny X-Force, and a whole mess more!Direct LinkIntro: The Flaming Lips with In Our Bodies, Out of Our HeadsOutro: Peacock the Heretic by Miasma & The Carousel of Headless HorsesDerek Langille and Keep Mine Kirby! I wish there was a sign that said "Keep Mine KING KIRBY" w/ Marvel & DC characters (here's looking at you Darkseid).
Three things I have not read yet.
The remaining trades of Promethea. Starlin, Perez, Lim's Infinity Gauntlet (I read heard great things just on the back burner still) The last trade of Jonah Hex (I just can't do it). I read issues 69 & 70 and they ended on a good note but All Star Western is Hex w/ Batman history/characters mixed in & it just isn't the same.

Ok hold the phone! I've just had someone donate a Leinil Francis Yu page to the FPW Cancer Research art raffle! The page features Hawkeye, Captain America and Ghost Rider. This is blowing up! Thank you Taylor Pithers! http://bullpenbulletinspodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=14915.0

Yours is a different case then, say, Steve. I'm just giving you shit because you admitted it and are an Iron Man fanatic.

Never read Black Dragon or First Flight I talked about Camelot 3000 a ways back on the show, and since I love Athurian Legend, it was fascinating for me. But reading it in the modern era, it certainly felt dated. Maus and Born Again? C'mon sons!

Oh man, Fallen Angels was my JAM! First time I read Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy, and we were introduced to Boom Boom who became a fixture in the X-verse. Backissue magazine did a Greatest Stories Never Told feature on a Fallen Angels 2 series that never saw print. I wish it had, it sounded bonkers! Here's the article: http://www.allanharvey.net/files/bi24fallenangels.pdf

I find it interesting how, completely by happenstance, as I'm playing last night's events over in my head, it turns into the I Remember When radio hour when the youngest member of the quartet isn't present.

In my day you could buy a dozen comics for two Mercury dimes. You see, we had to use Mercury dimes, which were actually made out of mercury, because the Kaiser had stolen all of America's copper; we had an awful time spending those dimes because the were liquid at room temperature. Many of us were poisoned, but it was worth it. Girls of the day regularly wore empty soup cans for shoes, as was the fashion of the time. Yes, my sister once had so many empty soup cans that she could fill two whole closets (what we used to call gigolo dumpers).

Sorry, Born Again is a great story... but it falls on the bottom of my favorite Daredevil stories. Probably because I started reading Daredevil off of the spinner rack with Daredevil 163 (he fights the Hulk) and bought it all the way through 200 (so there's a nostalgia factor for that stuff). I love the Man Without Fear Series because it really built a lot of the Miller mythos into his origin. But Born Again showcases a character that I was never really very fond of (Karen Page), so that probably biases my appreciation for it a bit. I think it's an incredible Daredevil story, just not as high on the list as Miller's other work "for me".
