i can understand not reading born again a little more than i can understand not reading year one. i LOVE born again, but daredevil is not nearly as ubiquitous as batman.

Well this episode is definitely one for my personal archives. Born Again, Ted Mckeever, and of course Flex Mentallo. Way back in issue 19 of Animal Man, the first page shows a writer's desk computer (later revealed to be Morrison's), and on the desk is a book called Unfolding Meaning by Physicist David Bohm. This is a key text in deciphering Morrison's DC work, both mainstream and Vertigo. In it, Bohm posits a holographic model of the universe, with the tiniest part reflecting the whole and that all things, even intangibles like thought are connected, that "mind and matter interweave." Flex Mentallo is basically Bohm's theories expressed in comic form. Like Chris pointed out, Flex is also a key text in the Reconstruction movement of the 1990s, along with Morrison's JLA, Robinson's Starman, Alan Moore's ABC books, and later Ellis' Planetary. Definitely going to work happy today guys.

I think this is the first episode in years that I've saved for the Friday workday. I have a feeling I just wanted to make the first time in ages we got bonuses around here that much sweeter. Based on this thread, it looks like I'm in for some good stuff.

I'm in the same boat as Chris. I've had a copy of Maus for about 10 years, but never got around to reading it.

You... You don't... slurmo don't hear me, though. Lightle's the reason I was picking up Doom Patrol. Solely because of his Legion of Super-Heroes and Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes work (and reprints and covers). And I was rather giddy to see he did a variant cover for one of the Star Trek/LoSH issues. oops. apologies I missed that part. Work has me all turned around lately. LLL

Plus, this whole I was away from comics at the time doesn't fly if you ever went back issue diving when you were first enjoying the hobby.
I was in college on a college student budget, living with my girlfriend, and there was the new stuff that I was casually getting back into, plus 5 years of what I missed (still no Internet yet to point me to the 'must reads', either!)....there was Marshall Rogers drawn silver surfer, all the michelinie/McFarlane spidey, Peter David hulk, Silvestri drawn xmen, xfactor from its inception through simonson, excaliber, and the John walker cap stuff...plus I went further back to see how the simonson Thor run and Byrne FF run ended. Miller returning to DD for one arc with nuns wasn't high on the list, along with other good books like new mutants Blevins/guice era, stern/buscema/Palmer avengers and others.

And I'd get that... If you were still in college.

And it's not like it was a whole nunnery with the Sisters of Mercy. There was a nun, but she didn't exactly fight Kingpin at Daredevil's side.

Wasn't the Born Again trade out of print for a long time? I remember looking for it years ago, and not being able to find it. Finally I found a beat up trade paperback a couple years ago.
Maybe the fact that it wasn't as available for a while is part of the reason that this one doesn't seem to be as well read as some of the other classics.
Or maybe I'm just misremembering.

Great episode guys. A lot of good talk about stuff I havent read in forever and stuff I just havent read at all. Would have loved to hear The Woodster in those discussions. Hearing you guys talk make me want to revisit these stories. Even with the technical difficulties, you guys are on point. Also, loved the new intro. Thanks again for another deep episode.
Vince, I work with a couple guys who have the button making machine. Lets get the forumites some of those. DM me and we'll make it happen.

RE: Cliff Steele a.k.a Robotman.
If I am correct he is currently appearing MY GREATEST ADVENTURE which seems like a continuation of the WEIRD WORLDS anthology DC started right before the New 52 relaunch.
I have know idea how he is portrayed but I am curious because I love Cliff Steele. Anyone on here read this?

Great episode guys. I love it when there's only one or two things I'm not familiar with (...the big boy books.) and I can keep up with the conversation in my head. I remember reading Born Again in singles, but will re-visit it via the Library and I also know a guy with the Flex Mentallo issues, since I gave him mine quite some time ago. I too have huge gaps from my non collecting time from 1991 to right about 2004. Next time you have skype problems I could pinch hit, since I often draw on Wed nights with the skype on.

Fallen Angels was a test for another team book. I think Marvel never planned for Sunspot or Warlock to stay in that group but wanted to do something with Madrox, Boom Boom, Vanisher, and Devil Dinosaur. I think the book just didn't catch on to get the ongoing started.
X-terminators was just a fun mini to tie-in to Inferno. Once that event end that group was merged into New Mutants. BTW I miss Rusty.

Nice episode. Sounds like Wednesday's Solar Storm messed with Skype!
Loved the Doom Patrol talk. I have every issue of every DP series bound. It's the pride and joy of my bookcase. As for their status in the new DCU, Matt Kindt and Scott Kollins did a nice job with Robotman in My Greatest Adventure. In my mind, Kindt's the perfect scribe for a new DP series.
