I don't think this is 100% still comics. It is maybe 80% comics. I don't think this is a bad thing either.

Comics inherently have a limitation, they can't show transitions from one moment, or view, or perception, to the next. By definition, a comic shows individual moments, and we, the reader, have to create the transitions in our mind.

This Infinite thing can show those transitions happen, which is something that traditional ink and paper comics have never been able to do. In some ways, I think this makes this "not comics".  It's something very close to comics, but something new, the next evolution of comics.

I'll say this: that Infinite comic would have been okay if read in print or standard guided view in the digital format. But it was GREAT because Immonen and Waid know how to tell a story in the comics medium. Indeed, I think this Infinite format has the casual reader appreciating the storytelling and the art of individual panels and pages more than they would if they read this issue in another format.
This isn't a replacement for print but it IS a far more interesting a unique way to read and experience comics digitally.

8)This format will be a place where great storytellers of the medium will be separated from those who are just great artists.  Cool

I also think that this Infinite Comics thing will make different types of stories appealing.

I'm pretty sure that if I had read this Nova story in print, I would have thought it was a waste of time. Instead, it was great.

The novelty of the book didn't work enough to make me think it was more than a splash-page worth of content stretched out.

If you've got an iPad check out Touch Sensitive by Chris Ware in the McSweeney's app, I think it's a far more successful and interesting look of digital comics

Once again, marvel's most newsworthy comic production goes largely unnoticed.
Incredible Infinite comic released in secret today. FREE with digital purchase of AvX #6 and only .99 on its own.
Hugely innovative release and will certainly be seen as a major milestone in the years to come.

(AvX 6 was clearly the best issue of the event--it's Hickman and Coipel, people--but this Infinite book is the real worthwhile draw "event")

I wasn't as impressed with this "infinite" comic as I was with the first one. This one felt more "gimmicky" than "innovative".

I agree. Strong writing but Immonen was more clever with his storytelling for the Infinite format.

Marvel has been very quiet about future Infinite projects. So this came as a really great surprise:

http://popwatch.ew.com/2013/03/06/guardians-of-the-galaxy-to-infinite-and-beyond/

Hope there is an even greater strategy for the format at play here. Perhaps this new Marvel #1 thing will be digital-only Infinite books? Doubt it but really curious to see if Infinite takes off. I can't help but see potential.

The guardians one was really good. I can't say that I'm a fan of the format. But this was a nice little teaser comic.

Decent story, and FREE is way better than the $3.99 Starlord 0.1 (oops GoG 0.1) that reused 8 pages or so from the Marvel Point One issue several months ago.

While I love Oeming's art on Powers, Mice Templar, & other creator owned stuff, I'm not that big a fan of him drawing mainstream Marvel comics.
