I finally have time to read comics again and after being called out by King DAP on the latest EOC episode, I figured I have no excuses left :p
I wasn't reading comics when these were coming out, I started in 91. With a lot of these evergreen titles, because I read them well after they came out, it doesn't have nearly the same impact on me as it does to you guys that read them at the time. Watchmen was okay, DKR was cool. I recognise their merits but they feel somewhat familiar now. A lot of different people have tried to do what Miller and Mazzucchelli did since then and I wish I read it back in 86.
I just finished the first issue and I want to do an issue a day like Mr Neseman suggested. I might read another one later today though, I don't feel like I got enough from that first issue.
Anyone else finally reading it? Or re-reading it?

I am picking up where I left off in the Frank Miller Daredevil Omnibus (Yes I read Born Again before back in 2005) but I stopped reading it during Miller's last rant about Occupy Wall Street. So in an indirect way, thanks EOC for helpping me to start reading his work again.

i might not totally belong in this thread since i read it every two years or so, but the latest episode had me re-reading it again today. its always been in my top 5 stories of all time, but i think it just might be number one
miller's story is excellent, but David M's art is just amazing. there are so many iconic panels burned into my brain

I picked up the Frank Miller omnibus after I had read through all of Bendis's run. And while I liked the Frank Miller stuff I much preferred the Bendis run.

It's been too long since I read it, so vie pulled it off my shelf and am giving it another read. It's as good as I remember, and I'm picking up on things I don't remember seeing in it before like the recurring theme of Also, my trade was published in 1987! I'm not sure if I first got it then or didn't pick it up until a few years later, but either way, it's old. In the afterword, Miller writes that Mazzucchelli has talked of writing his own comics, and that we should keep an eye out for them! |

Same here. Really apples and oranges though but I just loved that gritty noir feel of the Bendis/Maleev run, those guys were tapped into something special back then. I place THAT run up there with TDKR actually. But, that said: I still ADORE Born Again. |

This might get me kicked into oblivion, but I got the book from the library this fall, and for whatever reason I just couldn't get into it.
I'll revisit it sometime in the future with fresh eyes.

Two issues in and it ain't exactly blowing my socks off. Not that it's bad or anything but not exactly something where I'm just dying to read the next page. The art is very pretty though and I'm enjoying it for that. |

It's the same thing when someone reads Watchmen twenty years after it was first published and saying "what was the big deal?" At the time, this was no joke. And you're right. Everyone's been trying to top what came before. It's still a great story. But probably loses something if you can't put yourself in the frame of mind we were in when it was coming out. |
