Looks like this Graphic Novel might actually get a release.

Interesting... I wasn't aware this was even in the works.

I like Nowlan's art and those pages are well done but I'm undecided about his take on Man-Thing. I'm not sure I like the way he's drawing the character but I'm intrigued anyway!

I was still at art school when this was first announced...20 years ago!

hopefully it won't be the "Chinese Democracy" of comics.

With all due respect to the great Kevin Nowlan, who is supremely talented, the real  Rock Horns aspect of this is the fact that Steve flippin Gerber wrote it!!!

Since it's a graphic novel, I'm guessing it will be...giant-size.

I think myself and Chuck Klosterman are the only two fans of that album.

I mean, it's not G&R by any stretch... but something about it pleases my ear. Probably the over the top bombast of it all.

On Topic: I wish they were releasing this as a graphic novel as it was intended instead of a mini, but I'll still pick it up. Great creative team.

How did I miss that? Okay, with that knowledge, I've gone from intrigued to drooling in anticipation.

Maybe this falls under the Comics Confession thread, but I've never read any Gerber so this is my opportunity.  WIN - WIN!

You've never read anything by Steve Gerber? You need to rectify that, my friend. Smiley I think you'd like his work.

Familiar with his work, sure.  So I find this Gerber-Nowlan joint as the perfect opportunity to rectify that void in my life.

CBR has preview pages of the Steve Gerber/Kevin Nowlan Man-Thing series coming this July:

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=12604

Overall, the art is very nice , although i have to say that I'm not crazy about Nowlan interpretation of Man-Thing (which is kind of important in a Man-Thing comic!).The splash page, in particular, is odd. Manny looks like he's been molded out of clay and smoothed out like Gumby! It's an odd choice.

Nevertheless, some of the art looks great and I'm really looking forward to this series. The cover (by Art Adams) is incredible.

I was thinking this same thing. It's pretty hard to top Ploog's version isn't it? Nevertheless it's Gerber doing Man-Thing so I'm certainly going to be all over it!

I had planned to buy this in singles but, since I forgot to order the first issue, I think I'll take my oversight as a blessing in disguise and wait for the collected edition. I like what I see but I have to agree the first glimpse of Nowlan's unique take on the character is a bit shocking. Gotta give the guy props for blazing his own trail.

My feelings exactly.

Yes, and I like his overall design of the creature in terms of it's shape and proportions. It's the lack of more roots and textural elements that throws me (well, that and the belly button, which is actually pretty funny).

I want to know who that little tree character is in the first two panels of page 4!

Has there ever been a story where Man-Thing meets Groot?
I would so totally buy that.

I'm obviously missing something here...how is Steve Gerber involved in this, exactly?

It's a previously unpublished script.  (More).

Aw DAMN that looks cool.  I too forgot to preorder it.  Grrr...

I think Man-Thing looks pretty cool.  Looks more sad and pathetic than the usual shuffling brute.

When I think of Man-Thing, I think of the the ad for or cover of Micronauts #7, or Power Records.

What depiction is your Man-Thing?
