Personally, I think that you could do a couple of re-reads if it helps you to flush out a category, but I'd be against an entire category called "Re-Reads" or "Old Favourites." But that's just one man's opinion; what does everyone else think?
While I'd agree a category devoted to it seems too much, the idea of one reread per category is less bothersome, even though it probably amounts to the same amount of books in total.

I've been doing the 50/50 challenge (50 books/50 movies in a year) but since I work from home and am doing it with a bunch of comics (180 pages minimum) I've decided to go double.

I'll see if I can multitask it and break down what I've still got to read into 9 categories Smiley

UPDATE:
Went through my regina pile and came up with some rough categories. Aside from some of the Europeans all that's in my current regina pile. I might swap out something for a Manga category depending on how things go. I've got Pluto, Death Note and Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service in my pile too

Killer list, Ryan.

I would probably put Stuck Rubber Baby under Classic Indie since you have things like Blankets and Someday Funnies in there.  But that doesn't help the whole '9' aspect.

I'd started an Anthology category but couldn't get it to 9 as easily so Someday Funnies ended up in classic indie (for the insane creator list) instead which bumped some other classic indie to odds and ends. There's a lot of possible overlap in those two.

I've got a big box of D&Q books too that I didn't want to dig out which might end up another category.

Too much Regina.

Oh man that box was a gold mine! Odds and ends/Bendis categories are gone.

Aside from the stuff I used to fill up Anthologies and another Indie section I found an Adrian Tomine books with a signed/numbered book plate in it, the first 7 issues of Love and Rockets volume 2, some REALLY old Brubaker (Complete Lowlife and The Fall), I'm happier with my list now. Bring on everyone else's!

I could fill categories based on Omnibus or Essentials but I don't think I'm that adventurous.

I'd like to use this as incentive to eat through my very, very, very neglected single issue pile. I have way too many runs of books unread for six months or more. Gonna have to get creative with my categories though.

Do it! I'm going to do a Showcase/Essentials category...

Awesome list, Ryan! There is some serious gold in those categories.

One related question: I threw out the idea that we'd let the forumites select a category for us, and you made all nine already. Is that something you all want to do, or do we want to pick all eight categories?

I vote for this.  Love the idea of having the forum mates choosing a category.  I would also like to see a "blind spot" category included with the nine categories.

No offense to Ryan.  Great list and I truly appreciate the enthusiastic initiative.  Thumbs Up

So for forumers choosing a category, how's that going to work? Just one category we all build?

How about coming up with eight individual categories, and then having the ninth one be a forum-wide "Blindspots" category? That makes it easier, while still tying things together a little with a common theme and nudging people towards reading something they might not otherwise.

The way I had originally thought that we could do it was that once people had signed up, I could pair people up (kind of like the gift exchange) and then those people would each select one category for each other. The name of a category, mind you, not the nine books IN the category. And while I like the "Blindspots" idea, and was planning on filling that up for one of my categories, I hesitate to make it a forum-wide category, as that might mean that people would have to expend money to get those Blindspots, and I know cash can be an issue for people. But I am nothing if not democratic, so let's throw it out there. Which would you prefer?

1. 9 categories: 1 non-book, 1 chosen by a member of the forum and completed by you, and 7 chosen by you.

or

2. 9 categories: 1 non-book, 1 "Blindspots" category, and 7 chosen by you.

Let me know which one you like, Option 1 or Option 2, and by Monday night I'll tally the votes and we'll have an official decision.

I'm fine with option 2, I can juggle a couple categories and turn one into a Blind Spot pretty easily Smiley

Option 1 might be more fun though.

So there's two votes for Option 1 and one vote for Option 2. Anyone else want to chime in before the night is out?

(Also: anyone else want to sign up? The more the merrier!)
