wow. that's a pretty poor casting choice for Capt Stacy. I disagree with fervor, sir Especially because it seems that Capt Stacy will be taking on the "Spidey-hater" role in this film, as Parker apparently won't yet be working with JJJ in this story. But I can still see how some might not agree with the casting I suppose.

The inclusion of the Stacys as major characters is puzzling, along with the lack of JJJ and I find the complete lack of the words 'power', 'great' and 'responsibility' in any of the trailers or the official synopsis troubling.

The Stacy's are major characters in the Spidey mythos. I personally found it mildly troubling that they weren't in the previous films as the ultimate arcs of both Gwen and her father were major milestones in Parker's life and ultimate pursuit at ever-purer heroism. As for the lack of "great power" love in the trailers, I think it's fair to say that people know that about spiderman. But even if they don't, the line from the trailer by Gwen: "that's not your job" Pete: "maybe it is." This sums up Parker dealing with that issue perfectly, in my eyes.

No Jameson? That's a bummer. I don't think that would be good casting for Capt. Stacy as he was portrayed in the comics but whether it's good casting in the film really depends on how they shape the role and the character. I liked him in that video and he could make a good law enforcement antagonist for Spidey. I just hope the movie is good.

No Jameson? That's a bummer. Yeah, I think a lot of us would put up with a whole movie of J.K. Simmons as JJJ, he was a highlight of the Raimi films.

I agree. Probably why Parker won't yet be working for the Bugle--No actor could live up to his portrayal.

He could live up to it. They should have just re-cast him in the role.

Well, to be fair, Hicks is "unavailable" for the role currently. I guess my problem with Leary as Capt. Stacey is that I liked Capt. Stacey in the comic. I didn't think he was a dick. Just from that clip alone, Leary's asshole-ness bleeds through.

can Leary do non-asshole? this is actually a genuine question as I've never been enough of a fan of his to actually follow his work.

From my understanding, the captain Stacy of this movie is SUPPOSED to be relatable. I think his stance on vigilanteism is supposed to make sense, from his perspective--it's just that Stacy doesn't know that it's PETER PARKER under the mask.
I wouldn't be surprised if Captain Stacy turns out to be a very likable character in this movie. I honestly think Dennis Leary might be great casting. But just my opinion. Either way, I think this movie has some serious potential. With all the Avengers and DKR hype I think is movie might sneak up and surprise us (I hope so at least. Loved the first two Rami movies. LOVED them. But I still think the Spidey mythos has some serious untapped potential on the big screen.)

Yes.
Jeez, it's tough for me to think of one. "The Sandlot" maybe? Kind of an overbearing step-dad. I guess he redeems himself a little at the end, but he still gives off that asshole vibe to me. "Ice Age"? Still pretty cantankerous and not really that likeable. I dunno.
