Was it me or did they purposely choose to ignore all the time since the Dark Phoenix saga that the Phoenix has been around with and without Jean? I think the days of strong continuity at Marvel is long gone. It has been that way since Quesada took over as EIC. They use what they like or when it helps the story but ignore complete runs or pockets of history.

This right here does a pretty great job at summing up problems with #1
I tried reading it, but the xoxoxoxo joke killed any momentum the review had. I'm sure Ayo is witty and clever, but I just don't have time for it right now. My loss.

Is it wrong that I just read the book and didn't try to dissect it? It was good and that's good enough for me.
It wasn't a perfect book, but it was good.

What was up with those joust thingies at the end of the issue? Were the Avengers on American Gladiators?
They're swimming pool noodles. As mentioned, the non-fliers have them. So, they'll just jump from the quinjet, splash into the water and then use their noodles to swim to shore.

That's the approach I'm taking, too. I view this like I view summer popcorn movies. When I watch Transformer Dark Side of the Moon, I'm not looking to critique every bit of dialog or whether the scenes were framed correctly, or whether there was enough gravitas to the supporting character arcs. I'm turning off part of my brain and letting the part that loves robots, stuff blowing up, and big sounds run free. But when I watched The Descendents? I took a long time thinking about each actor's performance, whether the movie was emotionally significant enough to warrant the accolades, whether the music in the background fit the moment, etc... Same thing with comics. If you go into AvX expecting LEOG or Scalped, you're DOOMED from the start.

I generally agree with that philosophy but even the needs of basic entertainment comic weren't fulfilled because all the little things just stacked up until it threw me out, and taking the comic as it is all those little bits are part of it too. Transformers Dark of the Moon doesn't have 30 years of continuity balancing because it throws all that bullshit out so Michael Bay can show people how to shoot action and how he has way to much fun with the camera and having bizarre character actors in small parts.
I still demand quality from my popcorn and frankly I could get more action per page with less headaches about content of plot from a Mark Millar comic. (John Romita JR. draws those too!)

But what about those of us who didn't? Not even dissecting it just they only referenced the Dark Phoenix saga that stood out to me. When I watched them TF movies Prime didn't start turning into tank out of nowhere. Sam was still the same Sam from 1 and two. Sometimes the big superhero book ain't popping for er'body. Oh and Nova was mad confusing, why is he so little?

I haven't checked out Nova since before War of Kings. And I read the few pages from the Point One one-shot, but that wasn't very clear to me. Was that even Richard Ryder?
Because I can't really picture him diggin' dubstep. Then again, I can't believe I get laid so obviously strange things happen all the time.

You do you, my friend. All I'm saying is that I'M approaching it that way. And if I didn't? I wouldn't imagine it would be as easy to enjoy. There are lots of people who HATE popcorn flicks, because they can't remove the critical eye they cast toward all movies. I feel badly for them, but I understand their opinions are no less valid than ours.

Nope, that wasn't Ryder. I don't think they've said who it is yet.

Wasn't he created by Loeb in that .1 issue from last year? So... we should learn his identity in about 1 and a half years when he takes off his helmet and he has a mustache.
