re: Bachalo. Chris you didn't like his storytelling in Shade The Changing Man? It's older Bachalo, a lot easier to follow than contemporary

I really appreciated the King City talk fellas. I have been struggling to figure out why, for all its praise, it didn't grab me. It was strange because I really appreciated the unbridled imagination of it and as Vince pointed out the world building, yet for some reason it was a chore for me to get through it.
It was Wood's observation I think that nailed it for me. He mentioned something to the effect of how there was this sort of consistency in the story telling versus the more typical rise and falls of a traditional narrative. While he really appreciated it, I think for me that was exactly why I didn't latch onto it.
For me, it felt more like “here’s a scene, here’s another scene, now here’s another scene.” While the concepts and presentation of those scenes were no doubt cool, it still ended up becoming monotonous for me.
With that in mind, hearing you guys talk about it makes me want to go back and try it again. As I said, it does seem to burst with imagination and that is never a bad thing and there’s no denying King City is certainly unlike the majority of the books on the stand. That alone makes me want to wipe the slate clean and give it a second try.

That's one of the magics of story-telling. King City profiled as a book I wouldn't like. And what I think made me like it was the very thing that put you off. I'm sure if we were to compare other works, we would find something that sits on the opposite side of the spectrum, but to many others, is of a similar vein to King City.

Amen! Haven't thought of that show in years. Fond memories of watching it Saturday nights with my grandmother. I liked Carey's orginal X-Men run quite a bit. A shame that it totally lost all steam and sense of identity when it switched over to Legacy. It's still early, but the intergalactic gambling issue of WATX may be in the running for my favorite issue of the year. Can't wait to finally read my copy of King City and see what all the fuss is about. Genesis was originally created in the original X-Force run, he was SPOILERS GOING ON 20 YEARS Pretty much was a walking bag of Daddy issues.

http://www.inkstuds.org/?p=4043Another great Inkstuds episode, this time with - Brandon Graham, Adam Warren and Bryan Lee O'Malley. Good fun for those who dig King City or that North American 'manga' stuff. Lots of fun stories. Nice companion piece to 207's King City discussion.
