Just finished the second issue. While it wasn't as frantic and wild as first issue, I still thought it was great. I seriously doubt any book, no matter how great the creative team is, could keep up the pace of that first issue, while still maintaining the overall quality of the book. I felt like this issue is the beginning of a bigger story. Still loving it and the art is just kicking my ass.

Just finished issue #2. I'm completely sold on this series.

I just hope that we'll keep seeing Casey's essays in the back of each book.

Doing a re read before issue 8. I think this comic may just be perfect. I feel like Joe Casey is a man that just... gets it. One of the few times I enjoy the backmatter almost as much as the book.

And we need to go ahead and put Huddleston up there with the (Tony) Moores, Bas, and Burnhams of the world. That guy is doing some next level work.

Agreed on all counts.

I would add that a title like Butcher Baker allows Huddleston some major liberties when it comes to creativity.  He would not be given those same artistic freedoms if he was doing a Big 2 superhero title.  Heck, even The Strain which he is currently working on is limited in its stylistic approach.

But I agree.  Not every artist can pull off the type of flourishes that Huddleston is doing on Butcher Baker.

Picked up the odd issue from the LCS yesterday on good word alone.  Wow, I had no idea what to expect but this blew me away.  I can't wait until it's all collected.

I interviewed the book's artist, Mike Huddleston.

Issue #8 is due out this summer.

Please give the interview a read.

I think I remember seeing an ad in the back of the Officer Downe Bastard Edition for an eventual oversized Butcher Baker edition.

This was one of my favorite series of last year and I loved how everything wrapped up. It was frantic, over the top and beautifully drawn.
