I have to learn how to manage the screen. So many tweets coming at me with the quickness. I am trying to follow a conversation and it doesn't seem "linear" in it's order. I'll keep clicking things til I figure it out. the Tiki Some apps give you a way to quickly see what tweet a tweet is in response to, which helps keep things straight...tweetbot it's a right swipe, some double tap..it's worth discovering

Lists are your friends. They really help kill the noise.

I am discovering things like (parenthesis) don't show up when tweeting. But it does when it's an emoticon. They don't? Is this on the browser on your phone? Lists, lists, lists... When you click on a user's name, their profile will appear. There's a dropdown that lets you you drop or block the user or add them to a list.

As a new user myself, Tim, i tried the lists thing and it made things more chaotic....as if there was 5 different twitters to follow now verses one 'stream' as it were

I imagine lists are more handy if you follow a lot of people. Things can get lost as the day goes on so if I have a place where I can just see the tweets from my buddies, be they real close or just acquaintances, folks in the tech industry or in comicbooks, I'm not too out of the loop if I'm trying to find out the day's news. But there are some days where I don't care all that much and if I missed something I just say "oh, well". I don't have to be part of every conversation.

this is a good point, don't let it take over your life. also, i find it's helpful to not follow people out of obligation, if find yourself getting overwhelmed or aggravated by what someone is tweeting about, or the amount they're tweeting, don't be afraid to unfollow. keeps the list and noise down. i unfollowed a friend recently because i realized all he was doing was retweeting ridiculous bots (horse e_books and others) and not doing any actual tweeting.

On the topic of apps, I like Tweetdeck. Upon opening, it displays the last tweet you've read. That's a very nice feature if you read a lot of tweets.
Good advice: Don't be afraid to unfollow people. Many users, especially celebs, get carried away.
Better advice: Don't take things too seriously. My wife cracks me up by how hardcore she is. She has unfollowed people for tweeting 3 times a day because she considers that too often. I'm glad her rules are for Twitter and not for me.
Best advice: Avoid Twitter if you're trying to avoid spoilers for any pop culture show.

Tweet Marker!! I love that service. There are a few apps and clients that take advantage of it.

OK so I see that many people can "condense" a URL for posting... How do they do that? the Tiki

Twitter shrinks it to fit the 140 charcter limit depending on the rest of the tweet. Apps also take it upon themselves to truncate a link.

So If I have a message that is 130 characters and I attach a url from Amazon (those can be like a 100 characters of gobbledy gook alphanumeric codes) Twitter will shrink it to fit? Is there a minimum amount of characters I need to leave available? the Tiki

I had no idea Twitter could be this complicated.
You're over thinking it Tiki! Just let the never ending flow of people talking about where they plan on eating dinner and what they think of the Republican Debates wash over you and go with the flow.

I don't like screwing around... Just the facts man. If I see a piece of art that blows my doors off or a book that tickles my pickle, I wanna know how to "maximize" my sharing. the Tiki
