So after a wonderful weekend with comics and friends (and a great Twitter conversation with Alan, New Mutant) I FINALLY signed up for Twitter.

Can anyone give me a heads up of Dos & Don'ts?  I am already freaked out that during start up it obviously went straight to my contact list and brought up friends immediately whom I should follow.

Thanks for the help.

PS.  For the Record, Vinnie B was the 1st one to confirm me as a friend (in record time might I add)... He will always be my first.  Wink

1) DO Tweet
2) DO follow others
3) DO keep in mind that anyone can follow you even if they're total strangers
4) DO keep in mind that 140 characters goes quickly
5) DO Re-tweet stuff you like, but not too much

6) DON'T tweet too much about mundane stuff
7) DON'T re-tweet everything that comes your way
Cool DON'T friend everyone who follows you, there are lots of spam bots out there
9) DON'T forget to report and block anyone that is a spammer
10) DON'T follow Ashton Kutcher. Don't be THAT guy

I just followed you.

My advice is don't be the guy that Tweets in multiple parts because he cannot fit it all in 140 characters. Twittering is an art in itself. If you want to blog, get a blog.  Wink

Don't take it personally if someone doesn't @ you back in response to a tweet you throw their way.

My handle is Tim_theTiki

Keep posting ALL the mistakes others have made so I can learn from them..  Thanks.

Any apps you would suggest that would make the mobile aspect of Twitter a bit manageable?  Also, is there a spellcheck?  I noticed that it told me that I misspelled a word but did not give me an way to correctly fix it.

Thanks again for bringing me up to speed with the quickness.

have fun and don't take it too seriously.

addendum:  don't re-follow anyone that follows you that already follows like 5k+ people.  don't be delusional and think any of those bulk followers cares about what you have to say at all, they're just boosting their numbers.

Re: Wood's #3

If it bugs you to get followers you don't know or want, you could "lock" your account.  You have to approve followers if you do that. You can't be re-tweeted either.

Which mobile device?  iPad?  Your swank PalmOS phone (do you still have that antique)?

The native iPad Twitter app is the one I use.  It does the trick.  I use Tweetbot on my iPhone.  I've used Twittelator and the improved native Twitter app and both are fine.

Not sure what's available for the Palm. If there's no app I'd guess m.twitter.com.  If that's the case, the spellcheck is most likely OS-specific, not necessarily Twitter.

I too use the native Twitter app on the iPad, the others never seem to work for me with consistency.

I use Tweetdeck on my laptop and the native Twitter app on my Droid X.

I have to learn how to manage the screen.  So many tweets coming at me with the quickness.  I am trying to follow a conversation and it doesn't seem "linear" in it's order.  I'll keep clicking things til I figure it out.  Smiley
