I don't like screwing around... Just the facts man. If I see a piece of art that blows my doors off or a book that tickles my pickle, I wanna know how to "maximize" my sharing. the Tiki I can't fault a man for getting the most out of his social networking skills. I suppose the world can use more Tiki's and a lot less shameless self promoters. Consider yourself followed.

I believe truncated links are at least twelve characters.
If you go to Amazon and see something you want to share with the world, there are options on the site that let you tweet from there. It'll shrink the URL and show you how many characters are available.

So If I have a message that is 130 characters and I attach a url from Amazon (those can be like a 100 characters of gobbledy gook alphanumeric codes) Twitter will shrink it to fit? Is there a minimum amount of characters I need to leave available? the Tiki Type "bit.ly" into your browser. Cut and paste your link into the field there and it'll shrink it down for you.

Any halfway decent Twitter client has URL shortening embedded. In fact, most let you choose the shortening service you want to use, if you're so inclined to have a preference. It's been one of the most important developments in the uptake of Twitter.

My only advice is don't get sucked into arguments on twitter. Even if they are amongst friends and aren't mean spirited. It just isn't the best place for that kind of conversation.
Most of all have fun! Glad to see you on there. Twitter's my main highway.

Am I mistaken or do emoticons get cut off when used? Colons & Semi-Colons make it but parenthesis do not. the Tiki

You are mistaken. Mario and Vince were winking at each other today and parentheses were used.

I know I type it. I double check before sending, yet only a colon appeared on my screen when it appeared on my "overall" list/wall. the Tiki

Tim, I had weird shit going on every time I used an apostrophe, and I switched twitter clients and that solved it. I was tired of not being able to use contractions, y'know?
Maybe you're just experiencing something like that.

I see what you mean. I have been watching Rob Leifeld attack Valiant comics all night. He is outright calling BS on their pre order numbers. This Twitter-verse is like a whole other world that I was not aware was going on. the Tiki

Twitter is the strange grandchild of the IRC, dial-up BBS and USENET virtual-cocktail parties of my misspent college days, ah...in my pushing-40 dotage I linger more on Facebook for jawin' and tumblr for picture browsing. I rig my other social nets to post to Twitter...I'm "that guy" whose Twitter feed probably looks like a robot (roh-butt ) spitting out updates. This week I did actually post a non-robutt couple of posts: I was nearly run over by a courier van outside my office and decided to vent on Twitter for a hot second, maybe to remind myself that I hadn't become an oil slick after all.

OK, I gotta admit I am loving Twitter if only for the simple reason that I have been playfully screwing with Erik Larsen and he keeps responding with exasperation. I thought my posts were so blatently obviously silly... I guess not. The Tiki
