You should.  No one puts as much on a page as Burnham.  I swear the man uses a blue pencil per page.  It's ridiculous.  Keep checking Cadence for new stuff when the new issues hit.  I saw the original for the new #1 and it was AMAZING.

VERY appreciative of the Batman Inc talk!

Vince read the series thrice over? In a way, I'm jealous. I remember mainlining issues of R.I.P. like four times each as they were coming out. I prefer the earlier issues of Morrison's run to Inc, which in comparison let me down SLIGHTLY. If anyone is intrigued by the mysteries of Inc, it is well worth your time to go back and read the previous run, everything from "Batman & Son" through Morrison's "Batman & Robin" issues.

It's not perfect by any means. There are flaws all over the place. But in terms of raw creativity and genius of design, I think it's perhaps the most awe-inspiring flawed masterpiece in comics history. It's so deep that ten comics websites all doing annotations of every issue still couldn't exhaust it. And I'm not always 100% behind Morrison, and I usually dislike hyperbolic statements, but I really can't help but think of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing and Neil Gaiman's Sandman when I think of Morrison's Batman stuff. I wouldn't say Morrison's Batman is "as good" as those other two runs, but it's definitely in third place in my mind.

I'm liking what Snyder and Capullo (especially Capullo) are doing right now, but if you want a Batman story that rewards (and damn near demands) intense thought, rereading, and puzzle-solving, give Morrison's stuff another look. Snyder's stuff is fine on its own for what it is--I have a lot of fun with it and don't want to get into nit-picks--but all of Snyder's strengths are already present in the Morrison's run, they just aren't as... obvious or something. It's almost like the current "Batman" book is just a streamlined version of certain "R.I.P." elements (old Gotham conspiracy, Bruce captured and drugged, invasion of Wayne manor, villains dispersed throughout the city), all simplified for mass consumption. Again, that's not a knock. But Morrison's work is just way more headier.

It does seem like people's favorite Inc issue was #7, but I liked #4 more. Possibly the most masterfully orchestrated single issue that Morrison (or anyone else?) has done in recent memory, in terms of plot and narrative flow. There are more scene changes and flashbacks in that issue than I can count, and yet it all plays like a smoothly flowing montage. Burnham killed it as always. Loved the Morgan Spurlock talk, especially how the cosplayers are treated in the doc.  I think there is a great divide  among con attendees are you there to shop or are you there to party.  More cons are going the party route while others are just about selling stuff, be it autographs, toys or comics.  Cosplaying is part of the party side, where else can you wear Joker costumes not on Halloween.

Family Circus is much much better than Marmaduke but Marmaduke is FAR from the worst.

I grew up reading the Houston Chronicle which at one time had the most syndicated strips and I read every single one every day. Every. Single. One. Even Gil Thorpe and Apartment 3-G.

I remember as a kid my dad reading Andy Capp all the time…which I think pretty much consisted of a guy working at a job he hated all day, getting off, going to the bar and getting hammered, then going home to beat his wife.  Doesn't seem that funny when you deconstruct it.

Speaking on The Bulletproof Coffin…I brought Shaky Kane's Monster Truck with me on a work retreat…and I must have left it in the can or something, but I distinctly (when I say "distinctly",  I mean under a haze of marguerites and THC lollipops) my boss coming out of the can and saying to me WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?  WHY DID I HIRE YOU?  Then following up with, I'M GONNA GET A TATTOO OF A MUMMY .

Thanks for bringing this one up, David. I really enjoyed it. Kubert is a master. I liked the smaller layout of this book. A 4 panel grid for a lot of the pages. I only have this and Dong Xoai, Vietnam 1965 in my collection. I definitely want to check out more of his stuff. Maybe Tor next...

Man I wish I could talk about Batman Inc. with Vince Bizzle and Super Mario. That shit was on point. High Five Vince on the Kamen Rider spot - hell sentai grunts period. I never got the Mr. Nobody and Jiro was gay... that might be stretching.

I think the special was my favorite since it was Batgirl versus Pop Music.

I've wanted to see that Comic Con doc, I might check it out.
