Just like our fearless foursome, we all have different taste in books, and as much as we love their recommendations sometimes they or some of us talk about a book in disdain either in a thread or through twitter. A current example of this would be Fantastic Four. I was surprised to see that they did not like a book I was loving. Of course, some changed their mind and that is the reason for this thread. To fight for your book or a book you are enjoying that has a certain stigma attached to it. Nothing may come of it but you might change someones mind. Thinking
To start out a book that I am enjoying but seems to have a healthy following of naysayers is Red Hood and the outlaws. This is a book I look forward to almost as much as I do Batman. The art by Kenneth Rocafort is great. I don't think I am going to have any argument there. Everything from character designs and beyond is perfect to me. Now the story by Scott lobdell is keeping me interested and I am loving the characters. This Red Hood does and doesn't feel like the Red Hood of the old DCU and that's fine because I like them both. Also, the story where he is hunting down the untitled is isolated from the nDCu with flashbacks and glimpses of the larger world and
now that they are taking part in the Owl story it makes sense.

Nows your chance to add to this, try it out  or fight for your own book.

Teen Titans.

The books gets an unfair rap because of the creative team behind it and people are angry about the old titans run being undone. Haven't read any comics of the 90s so don't really see the parallels. Love the ragtag team of kids coming together for there surivival. These guys aren't the JL at all though that isn't saying much. All in All its a fun book with some of my favorite characters (Danny the street, solstace). I like Brett Booths art and it makes for some good fight scenes. I am however for nowhere to become a background player after the culling.

I am going to get a lot of shit for this and probably a few kicks but Invincible Iron Man.  There's a lot of hate going on but I really love the damn book and haven't read as interesting an Iron Man story since John Jackson Miller was on it before Disassembled.

Fraction did amazing stuff with the initial 19 issues and the Stark Disassembled arc.  Unfortunately it took a slow burn from 25-right before issue 500.  However, the latest arc with Justine Hammer, Ezekiel Stane, Mandarin, and the whole Iron Man rogues gallery has been amazing.  The Detroit Steelarc was boring but has now paid off to see what has become of it.  The Mandarin is making a huge play against Tony and has a lot of pieces in play.  He's pushed Tony into a corner.  We know he'll come out but it's a matter of how.  Issue to issue reading can be anywhere from boring as hell to really good.  But reading in chunks is really making it a much better book.

Red Hood is a good one, as it's one of my favorites of the new DCU, along with Catwoman. Both got slammed for the sex stuff in the first issues, but they have been solid books IMO.  Another is Batwing, which has been really good as well, especially the last few issues. Marcus To joining it for art duties has me excited.

I'm reading the book and getting some enjoyment from it, but I don't think the book is firing on all cylinders. I think the book does not live up to the title. The kids on the team don't feel like eventual big guns in the DCU. Also, it still feels like they're getting the team together. To be 8 issues in and still be pulling everyone in is some slow story telling. However, since this is a "pimp an unpopular book" thread, I'll agree that the book doesn't get the love it should. My complaint is more related to the title and the history behind it. It's a good book, with a decent story and nice art.

This just finished over at DC, and wasn't part of the New 52, but I thought it was exceptional and that title was My Greatest Adventure.  What I loved about was a couple of things.  First it was a super-hero anthology book and that's something that I really think we need out there today and I was certainly glad to see DC giving it a shot.  Each of the features pretty much stood on their own with really the only other thing that you would need to read prior to this being DC's Weird Worlds which featured the start of the Garbageman and Tanga Features, but it's not like you needed to read any other titles, besides that, to keep up with these characters.  Each of the features; Robotman, Garbageman and Tanga offered up a different flavor of super-heroic adventure ranging from straight=up super-heroics to horror-tinged to tongue-in-cheek.  All three were really well done and certainly felt somewhat special to each to their creators, those being Matt Kindt and Scott Kolins on Robotman, Aaron Lopresti on Garbage Man and kevin Maguire on Tanga.  I think this probably got real lost with the rest of the new books and that's a shame.  I know DC has collected Weird Worlds and I certainly hope they do the same with this book.

I've really enjoyed My Greatest Adventure as well.

I'll take a little time to pimp a JT Krul book.  I haven't read any other Krul but Captain Atom with Freddie Williams is one of if not my favorite books every month.  The Flash sums it up nicely in an early issue when he says something to the effect of, "Captain Atom isn't like the superheroes, he's beyond that".  It's really been a lot of how people would deal with someone gaining god like powers.  Captain Atom fights giant monstrosities and experiences multiple timelines and deals with a lot of superhero tropes, but he also fights cancer, and redirects natural disasters, and all sorts of things I don't see done in any other capes and cowls fare.  The art is this fantastic mix of inking styles and the layouts are breathtaking while retaining great storytelling.

I agree! I read it about 3 issues at a time in a lump and I always feel like I got a good amount of entertainment for my dollar. The pacing works for me.

Catwoman.  It getting blended up with Red Hood in that sex controversy was absurd.  We see her bra for a page.  They show post sex!  O NOOOOOOS!  Get over it, the book has been twenty kinds of fantastic.  It's a great sexy, crime romp.  Selena is a great leading character; she is hyper competent, damaged as fuck, and a little bit suicidal.

I second whomever said Iron Man.  It's an odd superhero book for sure, and I get the art criticisms, but it's very interesting.  It's the kind of superhero book that only could be done with a character like Tony Stark.  It has military industrial complex stuff going on, private enterprise espionage and big ol' mech battles.  I really like it.

Journey Into Mystery.  Loki sums up what makes this book so good in the recent Nightmare arc; if Kid Loki is going to be a hero, he can't be a hero like Thor or Spider-Man.  He still has to be the trickster who deceives everybody.  I'm so thankful for every issue I get of this series, because I know Kid Loki will not stay around forever.  Even though he should.  Like we need more Loki as villain stories....

Thanks alot guys. This is exactly what I was looking for. There are alot of assumptions on some books based on rumors or articles and this thread shows them from the other point of view. One other book I am enjoying is Superboy. It ties into Teen Titans alot and with some Gen13 and Stormwatch characters I am all in. They also changed up the way he uses his tactile telekinesis, what being a clone of Supes or any kryptonion follows and some great art.  Hearts

Sex sells, same thing w/ controversy to hype a book.  I dropped this book after reading in issues & going to trades now. Catwoman has sexy time & some violence gets my support, Power Girl's new costume on Worlds Finest aka no more boob window can let someone read it just not me.  As a guy in his mid 30s not every comic is for a 6-10 year old in the comic industry.

The book I also want to support besides Catwoman is Justice League International.  It has characters as a team w/ real danger & risks.  It has Batman, Booster Gold  & a lot of B & C list heroes where just about anything can happen.  It is a solid read in the new DC universe that I get my 4 or 5 star rating on just about every issue.   It just works for me as a reader & would encourage others to read it as well.
