Has anybody seen or read this (or it's predecessor, HildaFolk)? It looks really cool to me!

There's more here, including preview pages:

Cool. His work looks great. I ordered this one so I'll post some impressions after reading it. Smiley

The book arrived, I read it and loved it. Smiley In fact, I've already ordered the previous Hilda book!

Hilda and the Midnight Giant belongs on the list of good comics to be used to introduce kids to the medium but it's a good read for the young at heart too. Hilda, the little girl who is the book's protagonist, is a delightful character and Luke Pearson has placed her in mythical surroundings. The story is amusing and moving and the art, which may appear simple at first glance, is actually pretty sophisticated. Pearson doesn't cram his drawings with detail but his composition, storytelling chops and use of flat color are impressive. I highly recommend this book.

Luke is a prolific and interesting creator. Not sure if you caught his other books that are less for children and more for adults: http://www.adhousebooks.com/distro/everythingwemiss.html

He's also been in a few of the Nobrow anthologies.

I did and I didn't... I saw that they were out there but I didn't know where I could get them in the U.S. Thanks for solving that for me, Chris! I'll order this soon. Smiley

This is great to hear. I've been looking in local bookstores recently before actively seeking it out.
Weirdly the Nobrow stuff crosses over into Australian bookstores as opposed to comic shops.

That's interesting. I wonder why...

You're welcome, Dave.

My copy of the first Hilda comic, HildaFolk, showed up yesterday. I didn't think it was quite as good as Hilda and the Midnight Giant but I really liked it. These Hilda comics are just charming.

Next, as soon as the budget allows, I plan to order Everything We Miss, the comic Chris linked to above.

I finally got to read Luke Pearson's Everything We Miss and Slurmo will be pleased to hear that I thought it was brilliant (I know he loved it). Pearson has rapidly advanced to my short list "must buy" cartoonists. I've thoroughly enjoyed everything I've read by him and Everything We Miss is my favorite of his works so far. It's truly something special.

Have you read Some People? It's the comic that made me a fan of his work.

I don't know who might be around the DC area, but a little birdie told me Luke will be at SPX this year.

I bought Hildafolk directly from Luke Pearson (I think) at a small press comic fair a year or two ago. I didn't know who he was, I didn't know what the book was about. A friend recommended it, and it was a lot nicer than I expected. I'm guilty of comic snobbery to a degree, and there are so many small-press titles that don't really float my boat, so I started it with a bit of a 'meh' attitude, even with that lovely cover. I will definitely be reading more of his work, this one sort of made me feel a bit of an Eastern-European folk/Moomins vibe.

I did too. It's terrific.  liked it so much I checked out the other entries in the series and started a thread about it over the weekend. Unfortunately, it's already slipped to the second page so you probably missed it:

http://bullpenbulletinspodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=15776.0

Check it out, Chris. I think you'll like quite a few of the entries!
