Earth People!
MY MAN RIGHT HERE! Can OX was amazing. All early Def Jux artists were amazing. Mind blowing turn of the century stuff. The only thing I'm bummed I missed about not going to Cochella was missing CoFlo
I remember El-P's Fantastic Damage coming out like it was yesterday. So much anticipation and excitement for an underground hip-hop record because of Company Flow. I don't know if I've seen that type of excitement for a release since.

The Dr. Octagon stuff is pretty amazing, I'm partial to Blue Flowers. Obviosly I did not become aware of any of this stuff until more or less recently but Dr. Octagon I knew before my internet days, a friends brother had a beat up tape of Dr. Octagonecologyst. We thought it was a Weir Al type parody thing, way over our heads at the time.

I'm totally buzzin' listening to this stuff! Trying to build a soundtrack to keep me philosophically motivated to pursuing my dreams.

Holy shit Earl you are making my day! I forgot ALL ABOUT MC Paul Barman! Would he be considered nerdcore? Pretty much the entire genre of nerdcore in its current state makes me cringe but I loved EVERYTHING about Paul Barman. Think about the people who were cosigning him: Masta Ace, MF Doom, freakin' PRINCE PAUL. This was a dude who was completely accepted in hip-hop, he wasn't held to playing video game conference after parties. I don't know if there has ever been anyone else like that. "Paullelujah!" was such a refreshing album. He could do it all, 'Cock Mobster' to 'Anarchist Book Store', I was so impressed with him. I need to listen to "Old Paul" RIGHT NOW.

I want to like Jedi Mind Tricks and they're obviously talented but their subject matter doesn't allow me. I bought one of their cds years ago and in the first five songs I listened to their were multiple verses about killing gays and other anti-gay sentiments. As an atheist I can look past the pro-islam, anti christian lyrics but I can't in good conscience give money to artists supporting crimes against homosexuals.

Sage Francis... the track is Escape artist which I chose ironically since you mentioned lyrical magic (it drops stage magic references). Sage is great, but if I must criticize him I think he never ran into a clever line he could cut from a song. It is like "this is great, this is great... ok now you are just trying too hard, it feels very self conscious". As for more stuff this one goes out to Chris... Dalek - Tarnished. Very fuzzy and noisy, it sounds like (current day) Trent Reznor providing rap beats for an MC.

I can't really remember, someone who is a bigger JMT fan than me, was Jus Allah's lyrics as offensive as Vinnie Paz's? Vinnie Paz has always been very one note for me, you always get the same thing. So when JMT turned into just basically Vinnie Paz solo I lost interest. I guess he has a cool voice and has flow but I have absolutely zero interest in hearing how many different ways he can say that he'll kill someone. By the time Jus Allah got back in the mix I already wrote JMT off. Hearing 'Retaliation' will ALWAYS send a chill down my spine though. Damn, the way Jus Allah kicks that motherfucker off. "The metal inside the barrel passes..."

Glad to see Dalek get some love. Basically I feel that Death Grips are cashing in on the road they paved.
I'm a bit biased because I had some run ins with Death Grips front man back in Sac. Not a very noble human.
