When you got the money, you got the power! George Lucas is straight up Gangster!Over the past decade, George Lucas has been trying to build a 263,701 square-foot “movie-making complex” complete with daycare and over $300 million in jobs to Marin County except his rich neighbors formed their own rebel alliance – *adjusts bow tie* – because, wait for it, it would bring too much “foot traffic” and be generally “déclassé.” So not only has George Lucas bullseyed the project with his T-16, he’s now firing a Death Star laser right at his enemies’ stuffy dicks. Via Gawker:
As a Lucasfilm spokesperson put it to The Huffington Post: “The level of bitterness and anger expressed by the homeowners in Lucas Valley has convinced us that, even if we were to spend more time and acquire the necessary approvals, we would not be able to maintain a constructive relationship with our neighbors.”
Instead, Lucas has proposed a new project: Projects.
In a letter formally withdrawing his mega-studio plans, the filmmaker expressed his intention to sell the land to “a developer who will be interested in low-income housing since it is scarce in Marin.”http://www.thesuperficial.com/george-lucas-is-straight-gangster-05-2012?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thesuperficial%2FSNxk+%28The+Superficial+-+Because+You%27re+Ugly%29The Tiki

Awesome. Right there is a man who is used to getting what he wants. You can see why.

blog / facebook / twitter / last.fmListen to the 'THE CHEMICAL BOX' podcastsComics were definitely happier, breezier and more confident in their own strengths before Hollywood and the Internet turned the business of writing superhero stories into the production of low budget storyboards or, worse, into conformist, fruitless attempts to impress or entertain a small group of people who appear to hate comics and their creators. - Grant Morrison

My Aunt and Uncle once owned a 100 acres of redwoods in Nicasio, which is right in the heart of all this bullshit…they had to sell a lot of it at one point because my uncle had fallen ill, and the person whom they sold it to turned out to be a grade A asshole (west marinite), and god rest their souls, but they really should have known better than to trust people like him.
Both my Aunt and Uncle are now passed away, but before my Aunt passed away last year, she left my mother all the property.
My mother has tried to get involved with the community and I will tell you this, brothers, some of those people are downright nasty, the entitlement issues, the egregiousness, the lack of reality…it's really quite mindblowing. Needless to say…I don't like a great deal of them.
Long story short…I've seen a lot of articles painting the community like a bunch of rich assholes, which is true, there are a lot of them…but there are a lot of cool people too, who were cool with Lucas' plans and are tired of the community not having any infrastructure and everyone commuting (in which marin county has one of the highest percentages in the country).
Sorry if I'm rambling, it's just been a hot topic for my family as of late, and I was getting a little tired of the media pigeon holing the community.

i toured skywalker ranch shortly before episode two came out; and i have to say, its about as tightly run as anything i've seen. the place is CLEAN, SECURE and QUIET. basically like disneyland without the rides and the people . it sounds like the people against the plan don't want those dirty hippy artists and their ilk messing up their space . the whole thing kinda reminds me of:
