Who here is going? Chime in, and maybe we can get the lot of us together for a dinner or breakfast.

Quick q from a San Diego comicon novice: the site mentions that all badges are sold out. Are badges the only way to get in? IOW does this mean that if I went to the convention center on that friday or saturday and wanted to buy a ticket to get in, I can't?

Unfortunately yes. Without a badge you can't get into the convention. There.are a lot of things that go on around the convention hall but the meat of it in there.

Unfortunately with SDCC, you really have to plan out ahead of time because it has gotten so popular. The volunteer registration is also closed. Sometimes tix are released later but they sell out very quickly. There is Trixter which is held right outside the convention center. I believe Slurmo went and might be able to speak intelligently on the matter. http://trickstertrickster.com/I thought they had a kickstarter as well but I can't find it. P.S. Wife and I are going.

It was tremendous fun last year, and I was fortunate enough to sip upon several different rums and scotches that usually would be out of my price range. If Neseman were to open a mini-convention that featured alcohol and comics, it would be TR!CKSTER. It was a great place to stop and rest after attending the convention for several hours, and they even served sushi and other foods. And the campaign isn't on Kickstarter, but Indiegogo instead.

I'll be there.
There is usually a dinner Weds after Preview night @ the Tilted Kilt (on the other side of the ball park).
We also do a dinner after the Podcasting panel on Thursday @ Rock Bottom downtown.
Beyond that, a bunch of us usually get together on Fri & Saturday as well. The last few years we got together on Saturday for a comic & trade swap.

Thanks TreverC and LA Rabbit. I guess this means it will be a miracle if I ever get in SDCC. Daily life moves at such a pace for me, and there are always so many things vying for my attention at the same time, I doubt that I will ever be able to get my act together and jump in on the badge train in time.
Oh well. There is always other conventions to enjoy. :-)

BTW, i'll be goin' to SDCC also. as per usual, i'll be hitchin' with a buddy and stayin' over at a relative's house. i'll keep an eye on the boards to see what you guys have planned. -mike

I went to SDCC a couple of times in the early '80's before the show blew up into the monster it is now. I would love to go back one year just to experience all the hysteria. Finances kinda put the kibosh on that, though. I have been hitting C2E2 the last couple years and think that it might be my con of choice for awhile. I always have a great time! (Some nights I even remember! LOL) To all those that are going....HAVE A GREAT CON! I will be at home watching on G4.

I'll be there! Though probably just for the weekend portion. A friend and I are debuting a comic at his small press table, but when I'm not there I'll be roaming around. Will definitely check for Tr!ckster as well.
By the way – I saw a rumor that security will actually be checking ID's at the convention hall doors this year. Given the insane flow of traffic, and the fact that a good portion of attendees are wearing storm trooper masks, I don't see how this is even possible. Have you heard anything? I've got a badge for my wife but it's really not her scene so I was gonna bring a friend instead. He said he's down to wear a wig but I don't think he could pass for her.

A few years ago my friend Haley couldn't make it, but had already bought a four day weekend pass in advance. Not wanting it to go to waste, our friend Jeremy volunteered to try and pick it up. He went to Registration with her paperwork, claimed he lost his ID, but still provided them with all the basics (address, phone number, etc.). The last question the Volunteer asked was "Isn't 'Haley' a girls name?", to which Jeremy responded with a death-stare "Yes." The Volunteer looked so embarrassed and quickly gave him the pass. We still laugh about that story today. But to answer your question, this is first I've heard if it. It would be a massive clusterfuck if true.

Trickster was pretty cool last year. I went to have a drink a couple times, and I went to one of the workshops.
The workshops could use a little improvement, the one I went to was essentially "put people in a room with some artists while they work and let people watch". It took a lot of active work to make a point of talking to the artists and asking a lot of questions to get the most out of it.
That said, I'm sure I'll spend a bit of time there this year.

Hey KW!! I heard that the security will be randomly checking ID's at the doors and on the floor, but it is random.
