Everyone has been wondering what the big switch ups will be. Here come the first wave of rumors and mix ups. http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/06/13/astonishing-avengers-from-remender-and-opena/And one of them is that Rick Remender and Jemery Opena are starting a new Avengers book together, called Astonishing Avengers. Following on the route mapped by Astonishing X-Men… and Panini’s Astonishing Spider-Man.
We need more Astonishing comics. And we’re going to get them.
If I was still using traffic lights to measure the validity of rumours this would be green with a tinge of yellow. Followed by http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/06/13/jonathan-hickman-and-esad-ribic-on-the-avengers/After his five year plan of writing Fantastic Four came to fruition, it’s time for Jonathan Hickman to turn his long term thinking, planning and structure to The Avengers. Brian Bendis has been writing the book for an age and is planning on moving on to something even bigger…
Look for the beginning of Hickman’s latest epic in September or October… and I’m told that he’s joining with Esad Ribic. Finally http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/06/13/matt-fraction-and-salvador-larocca-take-on-fantastic-four/Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca, taking over the Fantastic Four when Jonathan Hickman leaves for The Avengers.
Fraction has been working on a variety of books for Marvel, including a long run on Iron Man. And we know that Kieron Gillen and Greg Land are taking over that book.
So what’s happening on Uncanny X-Men… and the rest of the main X-books?
Okay that filling isn’t loose yet. Someone bring me a hammer. So what do you think? How valid, what is bigger than Avengers for Bendis? Another Avengers title? Remender / Opena back together is something that fills me with joy but that is the one out of the three.

Wow, I was just posting bout this! The article linked to to this thread has more detail though. I'm actually most excited to potentially see Waid on Avengers Assemble. Mark Waid to take over Avenger Assemble??? - this would be AWESOME as Waid has reached a whole new A game. I'd love to see what he could do with the Avengers now. Maybe this is why some of his DD artists have slowed their work on that title?? http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/GraphicCity/news/?a=61625

I'd be down for reading a Remender or Hickman Avengers book. Of course, I'm also attracted to the artists listed (Opena & Ribic), but you know that will change within a few issues, so I put little stock in who they say the artist is.
I'm very lukewarm on a Matt Fraction/Larroca FF. That's my cue to drop the title I think. I wish they'd let that team go do something I don't give a crap about. I can't tell you the last thing I enjoyed from Fraction and I really don't want to see what actor Larroca gets to "star" as Reed Richards.

I've seen rumors that Bendis will be doing cosmic Marvel, which conflicts me, if true. I like the cosmic Marvel characters, I don't care very much for Bendis's writing lately though.

Merry Marvel-go-Round It's funny, if you asked me 3 years ago who could take over Avengers after Bendis left I would tell you that the Writer would be taking on a Herculean task. Considering how long Bendis was on (almost to the point of overstaying) it makes the transition a bit of an easier challenge for a solid creator to make the book their own. the Tiki

It's not exclusive to Marvel, is it?

I'm down for anything that Remender and Opena do. I know some have already began to mention that Opena wont do all of the issues that's fine. Just like X-force. As long as he is routinely doing issues. I will buy them.
I buy Iron Man mainly out of habit. As much hate as it gets the first 20 issues of Fractions run regardless of Larroca was really good in my opinion.
I made it through 40 or whatever issues of Fraction and Larrocca. I assume I can handle Land and Gillen.
It seems that with Iron Man they just want the book to keep coming out on schedule. Guys like Land and Larroca can do just that.

Fraction and Larroca on the Fantastic Four has me bummed. I've tried those guys plenty of times in the past and I just don't dig either one of them at all. I think the last thing I remember reading by Fraction was The Order and I found it to be very bland writing. I think I've read some of his work in the X-Universe, but don't remember what. I'll probably give it a try, but I think my Marvel reading may slip down to one book: New Avengers. And I may ditch that one too. Depends on the creative team and I'm assuming it'll still be around. I'm not real interested in the Astonishing title. Between this and some of the latest DC announcements, I think it may be time to completely bail on the big two. I keep following the characters I loved as a kid hoping to read stories about those characters that I enjoy, and every so often I do. Hickman's run on Fantastic Four is an example of that. So is the Flash right now. But mostly what I feel is an unenthusiastic, "Yeah, it's good," with a shrug of the shoulders thrown in for good measure. I think the writers and artists on these books are talented, and do good work. They just aren't producing what I want in a comic.

Larocca--I don't mind Fraction so much--means I will be done w/ Fantastic Four once Hickman leaves. And I'm very glad to hear Land won't be drawing X-Men anymore. I don't read Iron Man, so he can porn-trace that up as much as he'd like.

I'm very lukewarm on a Matt Fraction/Larroca FF. It's hard for me to imagine a less appealing team to work on FF. I can't tell you the last thing I enjoyed from Fraction and I really don't want to see what actor Larroca gets to "star" as Reed Richards. Karma.

Yeah. I'll give 'em a few issues to see what they do, but they better hit the ground running.

Having read Hickman and Ribic on the Ultimates, I can't wait to see them take on the Avengers. Esad is a master that needs to shine in the spotlight.
I've seen Larroca on the FF, I believe it was the late 90s. Back then his work was less Landish and I'd wish he time traveled to 2012 to take on the book.
That being said, I like his stuff enough that I've picked up Iron man this entire time. But Land? No thanks. I've got a stack of unread Uncanny that could have been a good chunk of Beer money I never got to spend.

I will give all of these titles/ teams a try.
I think Fraction has his work cut out for him. Hickman's run on FF has been my favorite since Byrne and IMO has been epic. Hopefully he brings more of the 'Iron Fist Fraction' and less of the 'Fear Itself Fraction'.
ANY new voice on Avengers is very welcome after the past 10 years on the same same same same same same same voice. Very excited to see what Hickman can do. And I interested to see what Remender can do with Earth's Mightist after his past few years on X-Force.
Something to look forward to

maybe fantastic four will be the one out of ten things that fraction writes that is good. he's not an elite marvel writer. he and larroca should be playing in the C level characters.

One thing I should add is that this is a big chance for me to go even more digital in my purchasing. I see a lot of stuff I'll want to pop in-and-out of and I don't need my LCS handing me issues with guest artists that I'm not too keen on.
Taking these comics off the autopilot of the LCS pull-list and having to actually press the button on the iPad that says $3.99 really gets you down to the brass-tacks of whether the comic is interesting or not.

What about Brubaker on Cap? Slott on Spidey?
I'm totally fine with Bendis moving on, and the idea of Aaron crafting the Avengers makes me want to lie down on the floor and touch my naughty bits repeatedly. Bendis on X-men? Could be cool, at least for the first few arcs. I still think he's a terrific writer and just needs a change of scenery after getting VERY comfortable in the Avengers Tower spooning with Jarvis in the butler pantry.
As to some of the other changes?
Fraction on FF? Could be cool -- he's definitely capable of science fiction and mind exploding ideas (see Casanova), BUT...Larocca? Nah son. That's worse than when Hitch was on the book.
Land on Iron Man? -- an easy peezy drop even if you stuck around this long.

I really don't want Slott off of Spider-Man. I love the way he writes that book. I think ever since the relaunch of Brand New Day Spidey has had the best overall sustained quality out of all other Marvel titles. I know a change will come but I think Slott is so underrated on that book. I rarely hear people talk about that book good, bad or indifferent. I'm with you about Fraction on FF. Like anyone else taking over a flaghship it could be a shipwreck but the guy has proved he is full of huge ideas that could work for that book.

I am disheartened. I have come to dislike both Fraction's work and Larocca's work. This will be discussed on Marvel Noise and Fantastic Foresights. Count on it.
