I didn't say there was.

But of all the topics that get brought up again and again, you went with Liefeld.  Who is someone you commented on a few weeks ago, and felt the need to mention to Jason (after he popped in all bummed over folks picking on his boy) that you normally keep your thoughts on ol' Rob to yourself.

It's also a subject that JUST got brought up yet again, for the hundredth time, in a thread running concurrently with this one, which has a lot more to do with my mentioning it now than my feelings about his work.

Apparently, people don't "hear" me when I post on a thread and the normal reaction seems to be a kick or they hunker down into a defensive stance.  Because we all know I'm always dead serious when I comment here.

I share his sense of deja vu, though, and wonder why it's even worth discussing anymore.  There's nothing surprising about any facet of it.  Those who are excited about such books, knowing full well that it's more of the same, will still be excited about them.  Those who wish for innovation, creativity and ambition from these companies will continue to be disappointed.  Side A will accuse Side B of negativity, judging the books before they see them, and will remind everyone to "read what you like."  Side B will accuse Side A of being in a rut, buying books out of habit, and will complain endlessly to the wrong people about how the comics industry is going down the tubes.  Around and around and around.

LOL! Some of these topics are definitely cyclical.

I don't think there's any real point in accusations between fans regarding cynicism or optimism about this stuff. However, the sense of deja vu regarding this sort of announcement from Marvel, and the fact that it isn't surprising at all, still seems noteworthy. After all, one of the main reasons this particular subject goes around and around is because Marvel is doing likewise. I'm not going to judge anyone for liking Marvel's current output or disliking it but they're a major American comics publisher so their latest plans are bound to be a topic of conversation.

I hope that makes sense. I'm tired and running on fumes here...

Of all these books, I'm actually interested in the Bendis X-men books. For a long time that guy could do no wrong in my eyes. I can't say he's fallen off, because I haven't been interested enough to read the books he's been on for the last 3 years or so, but the premise of the this new X-men book sounds pretty cool to me.

One thing I think is a bit of a shame is that there are so many Avengers books. Clearly that makes sense, Avengers being the mega-franchise it is and all, but the good thing Bendis had going for him when he relaunched Avengers was his was the only Avengers book going at the time (if I remember correctly). So while fans were complaining about Spidey being on the team, and how stupid they found Wolverine being an Avenger to be, Bendis had time to establish just what the Avengers were going to be for the next decade. None of the creators relaunching Avengers books are going to get that chance. Ah well, hopefully the different books will allow readers to find the Avengers book they want to read, though I feel like with so many Avengers books going, the Avengers name doesn't really mean much anymore (in context of the books themselves, not the branding or potential sales gained from using that name). If everyone is an Avenger, no one is an Avenger. It's a similar problem I had with the X books when the mutants just exploded. I think it's probably more special for a character to have powers and be in the Marvel U and NOT be an Avenger.

And this conversation, while interesting to read, won't really mean much when the books come out. What I mean is the only thing that matters, or the most important thing, is how well these teams can execute. Because I think everyone in this thread has been around the block long enough to see kneejerk reactions turn out to be totally unfounded at the end of the day.

Even if this news doesn't feel "big" or "surprising" (I feel like few things can in the wake of the DC relaunch and Before Watchmen), if the books are great people won't care. I'm not really reading much Marvel these days, so I would love for them to deliver with these books like they have with Daredevil.

Honestly, I find the whole Marvel Now Initiative to be interesting.

I am very excited about Hickman and Remender taking over the Avengers books (along w/ Cassaday and Opena). Both of those writers write my favorite Marvel books and Hickman writes my favorite Image books.

I am curious about the other titles that Marvel will relaunch. I am sure that Iron Man, Captain America and Thor will get new number ones again.

The new X-men title by Bendis doesn't sound like a good concept for an ongoing series to me. Besides, the X-men books already have characters from alternate futures and earths. Now they are introducing characters from the past (perhaps alternate past). It doesn't sound like a good idea.

i'm surprised more people aren't flipping out about the jean grey thing.  it's no skin off my back cause i'm not an x-guy at all, but if i was a die hard fan i would think that'd be messing with things pretty seriously.  at the very least by traveling to the future jean will become aware of her fate, thus totally fucking with the continuity.  that's usually the type of thing people totally lose their shit over.
