Sure media is constantly assaulting us but that doesn't mean you have to read it all. If anything the internet teaches people the joy of being selective. Also blaming the product for the way people use it, tsk tsk tsk.

Even when you don't intend to read something and ruin it for yourself, sometimes it can't be avoided. Sites as widespread as YAHOO ruin things in headlines. You log onto Facebook to do something as stupid as Farmville and the first thing you see are spoilers from "friends" who forget that you might not be at home like they are. Spoilers are everywhere whether you seek them out or not. While I think that there are WAY more good things than bad about the internet, the worst thing it has done has given people the false idea that every thought they have is valuable and needs to be expressed.

Also I have to say that any piece of entertainment that is 'ruined' by a plot spoiler is not a good piece of entertainment.

People still read the bible even though they know Jesus dies at the end (at least I think they do).

Should I have put a spoiler warning on that?   Whaaaat

Also I have to say that any piece of entertainment that is 'ruined' by a plot spoiler is not a good piece of entertainment.

It doesn't speak to the quality of the piece of work when it is ruined by a spoiler. Half the enjoyment of any piece of literature, movie...whatever...lies in the fact that someone is telling a story. Going into that story with as little knowledge of it as possible enhances the experience. The twist in "The Crying Game", for example. Half the fun of that movie (for those of us that didnt see it coming a mile away) was in the reveal. I was actually rather proud of people back then as it became a badge of honor to NOT reveal the twist. People wanted their friends and family to be as surprised as they were. That doesn't seem to be the case these days. When a person spoils something it isn't just a plot twist being revealed, it's someone essentially saying..."I just saw this and got to experience it for myself. I'm now not going to allow you the same luxury. While I got to be surprised you won't be." Selfishness pure and simple.

And if that's not the truth, then people who spoil--simply don't. Restrain yourself. Prove us wrong. I DARE ya.

Can you imagine ESB post-internet?   No

I know everyone has heard of the cliche of the guy who orders out and pretends he is cooking a home-made meal for a date, well I guess there is a company who also brings in dirty pots and pans to make the whole sitch look more life-like.

I think I want to trail those dudes in my car like a lawyer trails ambulances, maybe call myself The Revealer.

(sorry for all the hyphenizing, but David put the fear in me)   Tongue

I think you are limiting yourself to the narrow view of the only people that spoil things are assholes and that is the only intent.

I saw Spaceballs before I ever saw Alien, did that make Alien any less good? No because the scene and the movie as a whole is brilliant. Rango is as a movie a plot spoiler for a large portion of Chinatown, I could go on and on. Also you are assuming that people are spoiling something out of a malicious intent and not because maybe they came to it as a spoiler too.

I knew the endings to both Wicker Man and Planet of the Apes(BOX ART, MILLION POP CULTURE REFERENCES) those movies still work and are captivating.

There is more going on in truly great examples of any work than just the 'big moments'.
