I saw Spaceballs before I ever saw Alien, did that make Alien any less good?

The big difference in that one sentence is that you CHOSE to see Spaceballs. When something is spoiled by someone they take away that choice from someone else. I also don't think that all people who spoil things are assholes....just a little thoughtless and not respectful of others. Doesn't make them bad people. I also hope that you know that I have nothing personal against you for your opinions. We are just engaging  in debate. ( But DON'T tell me how this turns out! I don't want to know! **giggles**

I chose to watch a film because I heard it was funny not because I knew the content to all its jokes and what they pertained to.


(I realize now that my posts may come off as a tad forceful or blunt that is just my writing style, I don't take a lot of stuff personal but write very personally it is strange.)

If you review something and spoil it for the reader and they don't mind, fantastic.  Me?  I'd rather let the creators tell their story.

I don't choose the movies Mel Brooks chooses to lampoon in Spaceballs therefore my watching it is a not choice to have Alien spoiled for me.

The latter obviously but that is how I feel about all spoilers. Without context they are meaningless in the scope of the whole is where they are important which in turn makes them irrelevant.

That panel of "I did it 35 minutes ago" is a great image and cool and everything, knowing it beforehand doesn't affect the potency of the scene because the reaction / revelation / power of the scene is in how it plays with the other characters in the comic not how it works on me.

John Candy as "Woof" (the Chewbacca analogue),Joan Rivers as "Dot Matrix" (C3PO), Pizza The Hut, Dark Helmet, Bill Pullman as the Han Solo analogue, The Winnebago spaceship as the obvious homage to the Millenium Falcon and Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa??? There may have been a nod to "Aliens" but the film as a whole owes WAY more to "Star Wars".

Watching a Mel Brooks parody movie or anything from the Scary Movie people is no different than reading an issue of Mad.  There are jokes within that rely on your knowledge of outside material.

I really don't see the connection between that form of entertainment and someone tweeting the last minutes of a movie that premiered worldwide three hours ago.

Ok....thats fair....I only ever saw Aliens referenced which made MY head hurt...lol. I always associate it purely with Star Wars. No biggie...

I agree with you entirely about everything up to the last statement because again it all comes back to context. You can tell me the end of anything, experiencing the thing is always more valuable.

Some people don't like to know the ending of things before they see them. That seems like such an easy concept. Why pay 15 dollars to go see movie when you know how it ends? Its not a spiritual journey, its a movie!

Because the movie is more than its ending. It comes across that all the value you place in a film is boiled down to how it ends, I can't grasp that at all.

Of course its more than the ending. I didn't pay my 15 dollars for 70% of the movie I want to enjoy all 100% with fresh eyes. Of course its not just the end. It is an important part though. The sixth sense is a good flick but a lot of it hinges on that ending. If I know how it ended the first time it would of been a completely different experience.

I can kinda understand book spoilers because that is all text but there is so much more to movies or comics than just the plot & script.

I'm seeing a lot of "me" and "I".  I get it.  You, RickV, can watch a movie and read a comicbook in a vacuum, regardless of what others said or did before you're able to experience them.

Not everyone has that ability nor wants it.

If you put in two weeks worth of work, would you not expect to be compensated at the end of that cycle? It's all about cultivating a conclusion.

I recently did a Google image search for Breaking Bad t-shirts. One of the images in the search revealed the result of a VERY important scene that occurs in the final episode of season four. Yes, I agree that the season in its entirety was a very valuable and worthwhile experience (By my accounts, BB is one of the best series ever produced.) but the payoff for all of the carefully-laid plot threads had been taken from me. There is no way to estimate how I would have reacted to that very important scene had I no previous knowledge of the payoff. Still, it was a stunner, but it would have been even more so had the emotional impact not been lessened by some ignorant dickhead with rudimentary PhotoShop skills.
