I really could use a little advice.  I've been working on these pages.  They are not "bona-fide," they are just a bit of fun, really.  So I've been drawing these pages and I think they're coming along pretty fine.  But the thing is, I'm not really satisfied with how I'm drawing the flames coming from the rockets of the rocket car.  I wonder if anybody could be willing to take a stab at it?  You know open 'em up in photoshop and doodle what you think might be a better way to depict flames coming from the rockets of a rocket car?

Thanks, I will appreciate your helpful opinions.  Don't worry about offending me.  I have a thick skin.

Jesus!  That's sweet.

Sorry, though, as I don't have the photoshop chops.  But nice rendering!

I think it looks great.  I wouldn't second guess yourself on the flames, they are obviously flames from a jet engine and they look nice, what more could you want?  I really like what you did with the flames on the second page, they kind of taper off into a parallel motion lines, maybe try that same thing in panel two of the first page if it's still bothering you.  This is one of those cases where you're going to be your worst critic, I can't imagine anyone seeing those pages noticing anything but how awesome they are.   Rock Horns

Hmmmm, I see the PPG building and the 5th Avenue Arcade in that cityscape.  I think someone is using my hometown as referance.   Rock Horns

Well, that city is supposed to be a place called "Lyndon" and it's supposed to be a made-up Londond set on a small island.  I used pictures of Pittsburgh, Vancouver, London and Portland as reference.  Sounds like I'll have to disguise some of these Buildings a little more, but thanks for noticing.

As for the advice on the flames.  I appreciate everyone's time and input.  It'll help to really nail down how to do these pages well.

I think it looks great. If you wanted to change anything I would keep the trail like you have in the 3rd page.

It's looking good, but in the interest of throwing out alternatives, you could try shortening the flames a bit and using smoke plumes for the trailing indicator for the cars motion.  Trust your instincts man.  Like Tim said, you'll always be your own worst critic.

just a suggestion, in no way a critic on art myself. Would a more curvy line with more a Flame curling off work?  I noticed the characters are in the cartoon vein and would that fit that style?  Really, it doesn't stand out the way the flames are now even with you asking peoples' opinion.  Just a thought sir.   I am amazed at how you draw, I really like the car!
