"Top Gun" director Tony Scott fatally jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon, according to Los Angeles police sources.
His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard officials.
Investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.
Law enforcement sources said several witnesses saw Scott, the brother of director Ridley Scott, climb over a fence on the bridge and jump off.
The coroner's office identified him Sunday evening.
Scott was a respected action-movie director who also made "Enemy of the State," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."

This is awful my prayers go out to Ridley and the rest of the Scott family. From True Romance to Top Gun, I really have always enjoyed his work and his ability to try and show different takes on a the conventional action movie.

Damn That'a 10 foot fence to climb over. He must have been determined. He seemed from the outside to have a decent life. You never know.

One of my favorites directors. I loved his style and always was entertaining to me no matter when criticsa had to say. I got few his movies on DVD, probably get them on Blu-Ray soon. And I see they were other films he has done I've not seen like Revenge. My thoughts go out to his family. R.I.P. Tony. From one I do have on Blu-Ray.

Very sad to hear that.
He was one of the few action movie directors who could put his own signature style and vision into the movies and elevate the stories with his talent.

Just remembered he did Spy Game too, that's a movie that nobody ever talks about but really is a very well done espionage thriller.

Yes, but now his family doesn't collect life insurance.
Maybe he took into consideration what hospital bills would run up vs. any insurance he may have had..... Could be a wash. Plus, maybe they were well off enough to not need insurance.

All fair points. I'm not trying to tarnish his name or anything. I have no idea what happened.

I love that. I saw the movie well after the fact, and that scene is a serious "...wait, what?!?" moment. So cool.
