Sunday Half Price Books had a 50% off one item coupon sale. They usually don't have anything too special but while browsing through their comics I found the Tomb of Dracula Omnibus. 50% off + 50% off = $25. Too sweet to pass up. I was also able to get about 80 issues of nightwing for about 30-40 dollars. I know that's nothing great but as I've been considering starting to pick these up as I find them, I thought it was a good start. Overall, I was happy with my haul for the day.

All the Half Price Books in my area put price stickers on their 25 cent comics. Drives me insane. Anybody ever have any luck getting these off?

At Heroes Con, I was able to get the entire run of Marvel Comics "Shogun Warriors" for 75 cents a piece, including the FF/Shogun Warriors Team-up issues! It was worth it for the classic Herb Trimpe covers alone.

I do the ol'look through the 5 for a $1 bin. I didn't think I'd find anything since there was barely anything of interest the week before but a Dazzler #1 hinted at new stuff. So I got...
New Mutants #35,38-44,47,48,51 (There was also the Demon Bear story which I thought was crazy to be intehre but I'll get that in a trade) Guardians of the Galaxy ('90s) #8 The Hands of Shang-Chi Master of Kung Fu #93 Jon Sable Freelance #4,6,7,9-11,13-18 (Would be awesome if First Comics was still around as one of the bigger companies. So with two big super-hero companies you could go to First for the Action/Adventure/Sci-fi company.) Dazzler #1 Manhunter #4

An alternative to getting them off would be getting a sweet run of something and binding it with or without the covers. Heck, you could do one of those custom covers using scans of the covers found online so you'd have 'em all. Just an idea.

In Boston today, I had a few minutes before a tour of Fenway to hit both Comicopia and Symposium Books there in Kenmore Sq.
Comicopia has a HUGE 80% section working right now. A lot of older indie stuff, some mainstream books filtered in.
For $12, I walked away with:
Fire TPB by Bendis Blue Beetle Vol ? TPB (33 - 37? maybe) by Sturges The Goon Vol. 5 TPB by Powell Atomika Vol. 1 TPB by Sal & Co.
Then for $4 at Symposium, which has a BIG table of stuff -- a lot of Acme Novelty Library, a mess of Marvel, a handful of older Dark Horse stuff, some Drawn & Quarterly, and some Fantagraphics stuff -- off a scratch and dent cart I got America: Gods, Gold, and Golems HC for $4 by James Sturm. Super happy about this one.
So for under $20 I got me a boatload of reading.
And name dropped Tiki on the crew at Comicopia -- she gave an enthusiastic "We love TIM!"

I was in the mood for a nice, cheap comics sale after listening to Vince wax rhapsodic about Chicago Comic-Con (or whatever they call it) and its 10 for a dollar blowout sales. Didn't think I could will one to happen, but I can dream, right? On my way to the grocery store, I thought I'd drop by one of my LCS' (that's right, in Portland we've got more than one) and see if they had Frankenstein's Womb. Nope. But they were running a 50 cents an issue sidewalk sale. Not as ridiculously low as the con prices, but I really can't complain. I picked up:
Amazing Adventures of the Escapist #8 (cover price, $8.95) Immortal Iron Fist #18 (I quit when Frubaker left; cheap way for my to get my Swierczynski on) X-Solider #3,4 (I like Macan) Mystique #8-10 (BKV) All-Star Superman #8 Metal Hurlant #1-4 (Excited about getting these) The Hire #1,2,4 Hard Time #2-4 (I had #1 only before) Gatecrasher #1-4 Cory Doctorow's Futuristic Tales #2 Ultimate X-Men Annual #1 (BKV) Secret Six Mini #1 (see what the fuss is all about) War Heroes #1 Transformers: All Hail Megatron #1 (been wanting to try it) Horrorcide#1 (Steve Niles anthology, from the looks of it) Forty Winks: Christmas Special Umbra #1 Spider-Man Fairy Tales #1 Hellstorm: Son of Satan Mini #1 Arm's Length#1 (I think he get a Xeric grant) Smith Brown Jones: The Troll #2 (always wanted to try one) Jonah Hex #16,20,23,36 (assorted issues I knew I didn't have)

Today... sister-in-law: "You collect comics don't you?" me: "Yes" sister-in-law: "Would the first 500 issues of 2000AD be of any interest to you?" me: "..."
She has a friend who has the first 500 issues of 2000AD in her attic and was about to throw them out. I told her I would give her some cash for them, but she just wants them off her hands.
I have a lot of the issues from 300-500 which I bought as a kid, but very few of the first 200. Got 'em all now!
Amazing!

Pretty soon my LCS will be having their "Comics by the Pound" sale. They bring out a bunch of long boxes full of books. Most of the stuff there is bad, but there is the occasional treasure. They weigh the comics you get and they charge something like 10 bucks for a pound of comics. I cant wait to go!

Found a really sharp copy of Shogun Warriors #1 today at the flea, along with Spawn: Dark Ages 3, 5, 6, and 16, Eb'nn the Raven #1, 3, 4, and 5, a House of Mystery with a Wrightson cover I had never seen, an Excalibur Prestige-format one-shot thing with art by Lim, Larsen, and others that I had no idea existed...all for a QUARTER a pop. I do loves the flea market.

there's a record / bookstore by my house that is closing up their book section and everything, used and new, is 30% off. it's a smallish comics section, but i did get the first fear agent trade for $1.50 and the first invincible iron man hardcover for $7.

A friend of mine found Justice League Quarterly issues #1-8 for me at Dallas Comic Con over the weekend for 25 cents a piece. I am a happy soul today. -Shawn

I know what you mean. I had a friend of mine offer her ex-fiances comics to me. I ask what was in it and she said the about the first 100 issues of Superman, which I replied "The ORIGINAL Superman run?" which she said "Yeah, he has all those." When I get the box, it was about 100 issues of misc. Superman from the 90's. Don't get me wrong, I love free comics in general. But people who don't know comics see a #1 on an issue and assume it's the original series.

I went to the same sidewalk sale Farrell did while waiting for my bike to get fixed. I really only wanted a couple of gaps in my '80s The Question run filled so I could bind them. The 20+ longboxes were frustrating because they was no rhyme or reason to the organization (at least he warned me first!). I did find the first three Green Arrow annuals that I need for my Question collection, but didn't find the Detective Annual #1 or the four other random missing issues from the reading order. Oh well. Better than nothing. I bought a few 'funny animal' comics for my daughter, too: a Walt Disney's Scamp and an Andy Panda. Cute!
