Sunday Half Price Books had a 50% off one item coupon sale.  They usually don't have anything too special but while browsing through their comics I found the Tomb of Dracula Omnibus.  50% off + 50% off = $25. Rock Horns  Too sweet to pass up.  Yes

I was also able to get about 80 issues of nightwing for about 30-40 dollars.  I know that's nothing great but as I've been considering starting to pick these up as I find them, I thought it was a good start.

Overall, I was happy with my haul for the day.

Skip the nightwing & save it for tomb of dracula  v2 Tongue     PS  you royally suck for that score!  Thumbs Up Everyone we are all now shunning pete!  Were the cool kids & he is not please act accordingly   Tongue

I stopped by my local used bookstore on Thursday looking for some Hard Case Crime paperbacks.  They didn't have any, but they DID have a bunch of used trades for sale.  I picked up The Justice League Companion from TwoMorrows, American Splendor (movie tie-in edition), Lobster Johnson: The Iron Prometheus, and the first editions of the first 6 Sin City TPBs.  For about $100.  Not a bad haul, if I do say so myself!

HAHA.  I read it while on vacation the last few weeks and loved it.  Great Score.  Shun Away!

I wish I'd find some TwoMorrows stuff.  I did find the newer versions of the Sin City TPBs for 50% about a year ago and was quite happy with that.  Shoot me a PM with what Hard Case books you're looking for.  I think I have some doubles at home I could send your way for the cost of shipping. I can also check my Half Price next time I'm in, they usually have a pretty good # of them.

Not too long ago I scored Sleeper #1-12, Maximortal #1-7 and Maximortal/Brat Pack #1 & 2 for $5.  That's the best deal I have gotten in a long time!

Nice!

My Mom was working a church rummage sale about ten of years ago, and I told her to pick up any comics she found for me. She was unpacking old dishes someone donated and comics were used as packing material so she just took them home,
It was all worth it to prevent those Manimal juice glasses from breaking.

My LCS is clearing some good stuff out. I think I'll pick up Brat Pack for under $10.

Been ages since I've been at the LCS for a couple reasons... been a busy summer and I switched to DCBS, but I have been meaning to stop back in more frequently and plan to continue to throw some money their way as often as I can.  Anyway, stopped in yesterday with the kiddo and came away with Marvel's Return of the Jedi four-issue miniseries from back in the day, along with the four-issue G.I. Joe: Order of the Battle mini (complete with Rocky Balboa entry in issue #2 and Rocky Balboa retraction in issue #3)... everything for under 10 bucks.  Me happy.

Goodwill find in Portland. Judge Dredd (Eagle) #1-10  missing #3, Nemesis #1, Epic Illustrated # 2 -'80 and #25 -'84, Amazing Heroes 43 & 44 -'84, Comics Collector Fall '84 and Winter '85, Comics Journal 58,73 and 88 and Rog 2000. All for 50 cents each.
There were two long boxes full of stuff, mostly of everything I got rid of in '92, but I could only grab a little. I'll check back next year when I pick up my daughter from college and see of the comic book gods are with me.

Today...
sister-in-law: "You collect comics don't you?"
me: "Yes"
sister-in-law: "Would the first 500 issues of 2000AD be of any interest to you?"
me: "..."

She has a friend who has the first 500 issues of 2000AD in her attic and was about to throw them out. I told her I would give her some cash for them, but she just wants them off her hands.

I have a lot of the issues from 300-500 which I bought as a kid, but very few of the first 200. Got 'em all now!

Amazing!

They turned up today...

The bad news: No progs 1-70 (save a few random issues 15, 16, 17)
The good news: Progs 70 -700(!) pretty much all present and correct. Plus the complete Daily Star Dredd strips + some issues of Crisis + Diceman. All in NM condition. Amongst other things this means that I can read Morrison's Zenith in its original format.
Can't complain.

Also, snagged the complete Alex Toth Zorro Daily strips for £5 yesterday. Good times.

Went to see my brother in law yesterday- his girlfriend is into comics (mainly things like Lenora)- and they'd been to free comic book day and picked up everything- she didn't want most of it so they gave all of them to me  Cheesy- I now, finally, have a copy of Blackest Night 0 (in colour and on paper Wink)

Thanks Justin. I'm a bit overwhelmed to be honest. Spent a good deal of last night going through it properly and discovered some incredible bonuses!

First this...

one of the holy grails of modern British comics, Scream #1 WITH free gift. I've got a copy already, but not with the fangs. It's almost impossible to find this item, and I just about had an aneurysm when I discovered it at the bottom of one of the crates.

There's also this...

an issue of '80s fanzine Arken Sword, which as you can see sports a rather fine Brian Bolland Judge Dredd/American Flagg cover and includes rare interviews with Bolland, Alan Moore and Howard Chaykin. Awesome doesn't begin to describe it.

Added to those two gems I also now have all the 2000AD summer specials going back to 1985! Those mint condition Dice Man comics I mentioned yesterday, the complete Ron Smith Daily Star strips, a couple of old Ninja Turtles comics, a Thunderbirds special from 1983 and some promo photos for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade(?!).

As for all the 2000ADs, they've all been really well looked after, many have their free gifts attached, loads still have the promotional inserts. So I have the Judge Dredd gold badge on Prog 300, sticker books for He-Man and Dune WITH unopened packets of stickers + a bunch of vintage Sinclair Spectrum home computer promo inserts.

This is more than a comic collection, it's a fucking time capsule. Can't believe it's come into my possession.

When I get the chance, I'll do some scans of the Arken Sword fanzine and send them to Vince and David for the fanzine Flashback section.

Holy shit, did I have a great day at the flea. Ran into a guy liquidating his comics because he has no more room.

Picked up:

Fanta's Popeye Vol. 1
Fanta's Popeye Vol. 2
Ashley Wood's Grande Fanta ($40 retail)
Alias the Cat HC by Kim Deitch
New Avengers #1-6
Thrilling Science Fiction #1 by Paragon
Fanta's Doofus Omnibus by Rick Altergott
Ten Continuity issues of Armor, Crazyman, Cyberrad, and Megalith
A HUGE silkscreened zine (bigger than the Acme Joke Book!) called Primitive Cretin by Henriette Valium
Nemo the Classic Comics Library (Fanta) #28
and a Fleetway Lion annual from 1977

Floppies all mint and bagged. Books pristine.

Total cost?

Twenty bucks.
