Yes. Or was that a rhetorical question? Not rhetorical. I was pretty sure but just wanted confirmation. I vaguely remembered a Helix logo on the first trade.

I know because I have the first six issues- which, as per the thread, I picked up for very little money (if I recall, I picked them up for about 300/400 yen an issue) in a toy/ cd/ dvd/ video shop in Chiba, Japan. It is also one of those series that I've read most of them from the library and loved but really need to buy. You may already know this, but Helix was originally supposed to be called Matrix.

Picked up a ton of Helix material for 25p per issue. So, I got Vermillion 1-12, Brain Banx 1-5, Time Breakers 1-5, Gemeni Blood 1-9 and Mumbai Maguffin (a prestige format OGN from Virgin Comics for 50p) for £8.50- cheaper than the trades even if they're rubbish. I was bummed that Helix didn't succeed. I love science fiction, and I thought several of their titles were great. Besides the ones you guys have mentioned, Matt Howarth also had a short series called StarCrossed that I loved. Nobody does alien cultures like Howarth. I remember liking Gemini Blood quite a bit, although I couldn't tell what the hell was going on visually half the time (Edwards has come a long way). My favorite, though, was Vermillion, and when it was canceled, I was upset enough that I wrote a letter to D.C., explaining that they should have given it more time, and that it was a bad move to drive away new voices in comics (in novelist Lucius Shepard). I never actually sent it, though. Oddly enough, one of the only Helix titles I didn't try was the most successful: Transmetropolitan. I have read some of it since.

There is some pretty good finds here, but I have the mother of all finds. Matt H.O.W.L. can verify this one. My Mom was working a church rummage sale about ten of years ago, and I told her to pick up any comics she found for me. She was unpacking old dishes someone donated and comics were used as packing material so she just took them home, she called me that evening and I asked her what she had found for me. All in all there were a buch of D.C. stuff that was worth a couple hundred dollars, no biggie, but then she had an issue of the hulk as well. I asked her the year, she said 63, but she couldn't make out the issue number, I asked her what color the hulk was, and she said grey. Yes, I was the proud owner of Hulk number 1 , unfortunately it was in pretty bad shape, the worst part is that I had to sell it to pay rent. I got about $800, like I said it was trashed, but I wish I was just evicted instead. Damn.

WOW. I just got a great deal. I've mentioned Bookman's in other threads. It's a chain of 3 or 4 used bookstores here in AZ. I trimmed a whole long box of issues from my collection and took them to trade in. They used to pick and choose, but now they give you $0.20 per issue in store credit. I ended up getting about 30 or so Valiant back issues, 50 cents each. Hopefully soon I can start binding them.
After going through the single issues, I went to the trades. Lotsa good stuff. But what I was really amazed at was the ton of Top Shelf books they had on sale. They had so many, they were selling them for TWO BUCKS! I picked up: Superspy (finally. Loved Two Sisters, but the library never got anything else by Kindt) That Salty Air (looked interesting) They had some Essex County volumes as well. I've only read Tales From the Farm from the library. I plan on getting the HC. I would have picked up a set here too, but they didn't have vol. 2.

One of my LCS's has a great quarter bin and I love going there just to browse and see what I can pick up with the change in my pocket. the last haul I got from them was issues #1-7 of thie 1984 Alien Legion series for around two bucks. I had only read the later series before then and now my collection is nearly complete.
Other good finds:
- Green Arrow - Longbow Hunters = $2 - Atari Force - full run = $3 - X-Statix - full run = $4 - The Golden Age #1-4, plus an issue of Cross Roads from First Publishing with Grimjack and Judah Maccabee = $2 - Supermen of America with early art from Humberto Ramos and Ethan Van Sciver = 25 cents - Matador - full run - $2

So the deals at Heroes Con were great - As I'm pretty sure all con deals are. But this was special, because it was my first. And you always remember your first haha.
Got the Savage Dragon Archives 1 and 2 for $22 total. Got Captain America: Winter Soldier and Tech Jacket TPBs half off. Lots of free and discounted comics. Got the "After Watchmen" issues of Swamg Thing and Transmetropolitan. For a dollar, I got Batman and Robin #1, Final Crisis: Dance #1, War of Kings #1, and Spider-Man/Human Torch: Isle De Muertes. Got my lil' bro te Star Wars Droid Omnibus for $5.
The deals were pretty awesome.

Silver Star #4 - The Boys #7 - Toxic Crusaders #1 - Green Lantern #16 Richie Rich Bank Books #53 - Jonah Hex: Riders of he Worm and Such #2 - The Human Fly #11 - Lone Ranger & Tonto #1 Mr. T and the T-Force #4 - Terry Moore's Echo #4 - Omega the Unknown #6 - The Legends of NASCAR #2 Tom Strong #8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18 - Bugs Bunny #245 The Eternals #2 - Fables #22, #1 reprint - Marvel Tales #55 - Dark Victory trade Marvel Super Heroes #33 - Fear Agent #14 - Superman #684 - Marvel Tales #252 - In The Studio: Visits With Contemporary CartoonistsThe floppies were all 25 cents each. The books, both in brand new condition, were 8 and 9 dollars, but I had a 50% off coupon from Half Price Books, so the more expensive one (I think it was the Batman) was only $4.50. So all this, plus a Run DMC cd for under $30. In the Studio is pretty fantastic. Overview of work and insight into the esoteric inspirations from Crumb, Spiegelman, Clowes, Burns, Ware, Jaime Hernandez, Brunetti, and Panter - all captioned with pretty in-depth interview fragments from each artist.

Karma, Ted. I love when people post pictures of their comics purchases. I'm not sure why. I just do.
