A lot of you may have dropped JSA when Johns left, but you might want to check out #27. The story was decent (we'll have to see how it goes), but the art was amazing. Ordway (who wrote the story as well) inked by Wiacek. I like them both and together they rock. And the colors by the always-solid Hi-Fi Studios were excellent.

And finished off the night with Good-bye by Yoshihiro Tatsumi. The first story in the collection, Hell, will be sticking with me for a long time. Everyone should check out that story if nothing else by Tatsumi................. ............wow...........................still thinking about it.......................................yep...

Mumbai Maguffin (Saurav Mohapatra & Saumin Patel)- a 48 page one-shot from Virgin Comics, I picked it up for 50p last week-It's by no means original but it has a really unique flavour to it- It's peppered with bits of Indian dialogue- not sure if its Urdu, Punjabi or any of the other myriad languages of India. A nice fun read Annihilation book 1, Annihilation 2, Annihilation book 3, Nova- Annihilation Conquest- managed to get all of these from my library (found volume 3, then had to order 1/2- naturally they came in completely the wrong order but, as I stated further down this thread, it made for a cool Quentin Tarantino style space opera. The sad thing (only for my bank balance) is that I'll now have to start buying Nova and I'll have to get the second Guardians of the Galazy trade. And I'll have to get hold of the Annihilation Conquest stuff. And start reading War of Kings. For a longtime DC fanboy (as far as superheroes go), I've suddenly found that I really like the Marvel Cosmic stuff (I blame Chris for this BTW ) and that I couldn't give two hoots about the DC cosmic stuff. Who wudda thunk it?

I read all 6 issues of the Ryan Kelly arc of Northlanders. By far my favorite story so far out of the series. I was surprised to hear Ryan Kelly would be doing an arc as I only knew him from Local, but he killed that book. I think it's called something like 'the hammer and the cross' or 'the sword and the cross' or something like that, if anyone's interested.

Just read the awe-inspiring new issue of Phonogram. It was remarkable. As a side note I saw a letter in there from a certain 11 o clock affiliate...............Mr Tom Katers.
Also read Mighty Avengers 26? I love me some Bendis but Slott is truly knocking each and every issue out of the park.
Gonna tuck into Body Bags vol.1 tonight

After Jacob posted the image of Tezuka's Phoenix, Volume 1, I looked up a little info on that series. I haven't read much manga over the years and I didn't care for much of what I did read. However, I've always been somewhat interested in Tezuka's work so, after learning that Tezuka considered Phoenix his life's work, and that the different volumes in the series work as related stories that can also stand alone, I decided to give Phoenix a shot. I figured if I was going to like manga, reading some work by the master might be my best shot. Some of the Phoenix stories are set in the past, others in the future. I like science fiction so I selected a future story: Resurrection (volume 5 in the series). I'm about halfway through the book and I'm more than pleasantly surprised. It's wonderful! The inking is beautiful, the storytelling and layouts are imaginative and the tale itself is a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human. It's been a while since I enjoyed a comic this much and I intend to check out other volumes in the series. Jim

All of the other work of Tezuka's I've read (Black Jack and Buddha) have been amaziing. Unfortunately my library doesn't really have much, and what they do have is not the beginning of the story. Hopefully one day...

Jim, glad you are enjoying Phoenix! Thanks! I love it, which is somewhat unexpected. I had a feeling I'd enjoy it or I wouldn't have spent the money on it but I'm surprised by just how much like it. It's easy to see why Tezuka is viewed as a master. I really want to read some of that Tatsumi stuff you've been reading too. Jim

First 3 issues (obviously as the third and very late issue came out this week) of Red Mass for Mars- I don't think I've read any Hickman before, although I always liked the look of the "nightly news"- really enjoyed it even though I've never seen that many text boxes before (outside of a Grant Morrison book) Groom Lake #3- Was torn about whether to drop this or not- pleased I didn't- am really enjoying the interplay between the characters- left me with a warm glow. Olympus #2- I know the art leaves some people cold but I love the use of colour (even though I can't always immediately tell what is going on )- the story of Greek Gods on earth is interesting enough to keep me buying. I wonder how close Milligan's Greek Street is going to be to this. Read these on the bus back from work/ the shop- tonight I finally have time to hit the Helix books I picked up cheap that are hiding underneath my bed.

I hope you enjoy it- I know I bang on about the Invisibles at the drop of a hat but I think it's really is fantastic stuff- volume 1 features one of my favourite splash pages in the history of comics (issue 1, page 2 I think- "fuuuuuuuck" indeed). It only gets better as it progresses.

Starman Omnibus v2.
I read the first one and really enjoyed it, but I must admit that I thought perhaps it was a little over hyped due to nostalgia or whatever. V2 proved me wrong. This series is fantastic. Just great comics.
