This was hard for me to get through.  I like old comics, I like Jack Kirby art.  I just don't jazz on the Avengers for some reason.  There were a handful of issues that I enjoyed, the fight with Namor in issue 3, or the introduction of Wonder Man in 9, but overall I just couldn't get down with the Avengers.  I never have really.

How are you liking this one? I've thought about reading it over break, but somehow I feel wrong reading history books when I'm not in school.

This is the text book for comic makers.  McCloud's book is a great tool toward better understanding the art of comics, but Eisner's book is a really thorough, academic look at comic planning and creation.  I'll probably get the other two books in this series eventually too.  I wanted to finish this book up before I try my 24 hour comic tomorrow.  Every bit of advice helps.

Dorohedoro Vol.1 – I usually have a pretty good track record with manga like this from the Viz Signature line so I was kind of surprised that I didn’t enjoyed this more. Already picked up the second volume but it wasn’t in the same category as a Pluto or 20th Century Boys.

The Killer Vol.2 – Felt like a long time since I’ve read the first volume. I think the first one surprised me more in it’s quality than this one.

I killed Adolf Hitler – That was wacky. Just when I started thinking, “where is this going?” the story moves along and a good time was had by all.

Gantz Vol. 13 & 14 – Really just more of the same but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s like a popcorn movie most of the time so I read through them faster than other things usually and it’s hard to go wrong with dinosaurs.

To be honest, I'm only about 60 pages in, but I'm not sure. I love the content, but the art's not working for me. The cartooned faces depicting people as they realize they're flying into one of the Twin Towers or are about to be slaughtered at Wounded Knee aren't conveying the gravitas of the situations, but maybe I'm just being a downer. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the rapacious activities of this country being depicted like they're Family Circus features.  Thinking

You didn't like it or just didn't love it? That cover is sweet and makes it look pretty interesting.

I just didn't love it. Seemed right down my alley but nothing wrong with that. It can be a grower. The cover has one of the main characters. Plenty of interesting designs for characters and gritty looking locations in the book. Vince had a pretty good description for it on one of the recent 11 O'Clock episodes.

Garden of Souls is my first step into the Mignolaverse (aside from the ok movies).  Everyone was right, this is awesome.  The ideas were crazy and grounded all at once, and that Guy Davis art is frickin sweet!  I know you guys already know about all this stuff, but it was cool how accessible the whole universe is jumping in on trade 7.

Finished Akira vol 1.  I thought it was awesome but  now I have to run out and get vol 2.

Read Paradox by Christos Gage, this was ok, I had some serious issues with the art.  I thought it was disjointed and not very good at the sequential story-telling part.  I would often look at a panel and the words made it seem like I missed something.

My new found love of the Legion of Super-Heroes continues as I work my way through The Great Darkness Saga.  I can't get enough of the LSH right now.

It's a different version of the Legion than the one in print now, but if you can find the trade or issues of DnA's Legion Lost 12 issue mini I'd strongly suggest picking them up.  It was an awesome story, up there with Great Darkness.

There's a Legion Lost HC coming from DC next year.

My friend Joe bought me this for Christmas. The art reminds me a tighter Jeff Lemire, it's black and white with really expressive brushwork and I love HST so I think it's amazing (mileage may vary). For the record, I got him Alan Moore/ Eddie Campbell A Disease of Language- I'm looking forward to borrowing it Wink).

A very well done original look at vampires.  Put me in the mood for more vampires.

Templesmith's art fits the tone and mood of this story perfectly.

20th Century Boys Vol.11 – Rock Horns I feel big things coming down the road.

Batgirl: Batgirl rising – I only jumped to the title at the end of this trade. Fun stuff and I see why it took me awhile to get onto the book as what the status quo is going to be is uncertain at the beginning of the book.

Northlanders Vol.4: The Plague Widow – Always enjoy some Northlanders as they deal with some historical element that’s guaranteed to be brutal on them. Always find good artists for this title and I like the experiments on the trade dress with this volume.

I almost picked that up a couple weeks ago Vince.  Then I remembered I've got next to no money, and settled on adding it to my ever growing wish list.
