Recently picked up a copy of YEAH!, the TPB, written by Peter Bagge and illustrated by Gilberto Hernandez.

Not your typical Bagge (see what I did there?), rather targeted towards a younger, female audience.  The writing is lithe, and witty, with spritely Dan DeCarlo style Hernandez art.  What more could you want?

The preview or first issue of Morning Glories that I pulled from Comixology. I finished it and exclaimed, "holy shit!" so my partner read it straight away (him: "what the fuck? Is that? But but how what?".)

I obviously need to get the rest of this series  Yes

Just finished Hawaiian Dick. Great book, I should've read it long ago.

Cool, I almost picked this up a week or two ago when it came out. It looks like fun. Does the writing still feel like Bagge's style even though it's written for a pretty different audience?

Jim

It sure does.

He still manages to use a somewhat snarky sense of humor while creating a clear cast of humorous characters.  Writing is dense only in the fact that every character has something to say, which isn't distracting, but aids in the propulsion of the story-telling.

I'd also add that Peter Bagge's sense of urgency is still omni-present.  Every action is of the utmost importance to each character and this creates some pretty funny situations.

The Bulletproof Coffin - I was going to take reading this slow but once I read the 3rd issue I was too excited and had too much momentum that I just read the rest of it. This just became crazier as it went along. Enjoyed every minute of this with all its old comic throwbacks in here. I thought the first issue was good enough to order this collection when there was a preview of the first issue online but this turned out way better than even that issue and went in a direction I wouldn't have expected back then. This in a way reminds me of BKV's Escapist story in dealing with the industry.

DC Comics Presents: Legion of Super Heroes: Legion Of The Damned 100 Page Spectacular – The first issues I have ever read with the Legion and it was good stuff. I only have a general understanding of the Legion from magazine articles, cartoons, and guest appearances. That was enough knowledge for me to enjoy these issues. Seeing that this was by DnA and knowing it leads to another collection it was enough for me to order this. I felt like I should have picked up the title up in the past when it was getting good reviews. Seems a little weird that this collection ends and there are still a couple issues to go before the title ended.

Amazing Spider-man: The Gauntlet Vol.1 – Finally got around to the Gauntlet, which I’m enjoying with the extra examination/reinvention of some of Spider-Man’s classic foes. The List issue was strangely upbeat. The electro story was suitably modern and made me think of some older Electro stories from the solo Spider-Man title and leading up to Amazing #425 that I haven’t thought of in years. Good stuff with the Sandman and all around good art. It’s so funny to see Spider-man bundled up for the weather with a scarf as well.

Mail Vol.2 – It’s been a long time since I read volume 1 since I wasn’t totally sold on the 1st volume even with it’s the creator’s connections to Kurosagi Corpse delivery service. I think I enjoyed the solo stories in this volume. The creepy factor was increased or at least pushed more of my buttons. That elevator story stuck with me that I recalled it the next time I was in an elevator.

Dorohedoro Vol.3 – I’m totally into this series now with some interesting developments that will keep me coming back.

I've just finished a reread the Morrison run on "New X-Men" (Now X-Men Legacy), creatively i think what he is trying to do is impressive but I'm not sure how good this run was. I think it's an important as it sets up the context of the x-books going forwards. Maybe the enjoyment of rereading this changes when you know what is going to happen with Xorn and I really don't like the last arc which is set 150 years in the future.

The first half of this run i think is very good and is very important in setting the scene for the future x-books but rereading the 2nd half of the run just doesn't work for me.

I have to reread that one myself. I actually liked the last arc in his run, but maybe it's because I'm a sucker for the flash forward gimmick.

I think maybe reading it all together the change to the last arc is such a dramatic change, although it had one of my favorite moments in Morrison's run. When Beaks grandchild is dying and he is telling Wolverine how he could never live up to the legend of his grand-father.

I read through Geoff Johns Flash Omnibus this weekend.  Johns does an awesome Flash book and Kolins has a great style for Keystone City.  Gold Cyborg was weird to have in a single issue (it seemed like big event stuff had just happened).

I just got an ipad and downloaded the sample of this. Haven't read it yet, is it any good? Is it an interview-style book? Also got the sample for their ESPN book. haven't checked that out yet either

So I'm in Denver again, with access to comic book stores galore.  Boogie Boogie Boogie

I picked up Marineman 1-5. (Looks very pretty)

Maximortal (I've discovered a deep love For Rick Veitch lately. This should be fun)

Northlanders volume 4 and Hulk Visionaries: Peter David volume 1. (Both 50% off)

Buncha Savage Dragon Backissues (I've become a HUGE Dragon fan in the past month. I'm on a quest: I WILL HAVE ALL BACKISSUES! NOTHING CAN STOP ME!!!

Now if you'll excuse me ...

... I have some reading to do.

Last 3 things I read
Orc Stain Vol. 1 Not sure if you guys would've heard of this Wink Seriously though, great comics. Anyone able to point me to some of Stokoe's earlier work. As far as I know, this guy came out of no where.
Not Bad For A Human biography of Lance Henricksen. Pretty cool, but not really too in depth. Had some great illustrations in it by people like Timothy Bradstreet and Mike Mignola.
DMZ Vol. 1 I always thought I'd like this series, boy was i wrong. I loved it. Can't wait to get into the next trades.
