Yeah, that book really is something special.

I've recently started Sandman, and plan to read through the entire run this summer. I've read the first volume a few times, and even though Gaiman says these stories are rough, I love them. The 24 hours with Dr. Destiny issue is on some next shit.

Read the first two of three stories from this last night and it was truly a fantastic piece of art. I laid it down without finishing it at the beginning of the the third story just so it wouldn't end. This book will break your heart.

On vacation with a stack of books to read, loving life right now.

Started off with The Tomb of Dracula vol 1 (RIP Gene) so good, I really love how Gene handled the collage style panels where 5 or 6 pics would all meld into each other.  I feel like he could take advantage of real estate with the best of them.

Daredevil Ultimate Collection vol 3  this catches me up to the Daredevil stuff I had started with (Brubaker's run) when I got back into comics.  I really enjoyed Maleev's art on this (sometimes his stuff turns me off) and felt like Bendis was on the top of his game, you could really tell he has an affinity for the character and really pushed the limits of what you could do with Matt Murdock.  I think this is up there for me with stuff I have really liked from Bendis.  It also shows what the right creator can do with any character.  I feel like over the last several years I have read some great stuff on b level characters from Marvel like DD, Iron Fist and Ghost Rider becuase their creators (for the most part) where able to map something out and see it through.  Some may argue that titles like Iron Fist ended too early but we are still left with a great run of comics imo.

Stuck Rubber Baby This has been sitting in my regina pile waiting for some downtime that I could give it its due.  Just started reading it but its pretty amazing how it sucks you immediately in from the start and makes you care about these characters.  I can tell already I will be thinking about this book long after I put it down.  I already can't wait to dive back in.

Other stuff I have with me: the first 5 volumes of DMZ, Deathnote the Black Edition vol 3, The Outfit, BPRD Plague of Frogs HC (almost done with this), The Stuff of Legend Book 2: The Jungle and Sarah Oleksyk's "Ivy".  Won't have time for everything but I love having options and I can't help but stuff a bag full of comics for a week away.

Went to the Texas Comiccon and got the signed Taskmaster trade from the man himself Fred Van Lente. The book is great and gives you a new, complex look at the origin of the Taskmaster. If marvel runs with it, he will soon become one of my favorite characters.

A Graphic Cosmogony

A great anthology where everyone gets seven pages to tell the beginning of the universe.  Some were fantastic, some weren't for me.  All were interesting and the difference in styles and stories was second to none.

Universal Monsters

Another fun anthology.  I especially liked the Mummy drawn by Tony Harris and Creature from the Black Lagoon drawn by Arthur Adams.  The stories are retellings of the old movies so they're all strong narratives.  I didn't really care for the more painterly look of the Frankenstein and Dracula stories, though I still thought the storytelling in Dracula was done well.

That's a cool idea for an anthology!

Finally finished the teaching course (PGCE) I was doing, which left me with little time ro read. Having passed (with distinction Rock Horns), I can now get back to some reading. Currently reading Mark Z Danielewski's House of Leaves, which I'm not far enough into to really give a valuable judgement but I really love Danielewski's prose and the means of structuring using footnotes alongside the text.

Just finished Light Brigade.  Chris talked about this on an old AC episode and I just got around to reading it.  I loved it.  A fantastic supernatural WW2 story.  In fact I'd be surprised if this wasn't optioned for a film.  Really cool.
