Automatic Kafka- Joe Casey and Ashley Wood produced the 21st Century watchmen and nobody noticed (including me). How the final issue saw print, considering its fearless demolition of the foundations of modern comics and the creators paymasters I will never know. An utterly thrilling ride, which reminded me of Butcher Bakerbut with absolutely no restraints (and if you've read Butcher Baker, their aren't that many). Glorious.

I've decided that I want to reread the entirety of the America's Best Comics line. I'm starting with this series: Hot damn is it great. The Greyshirt story from issue two in an incredible use of a comic book for delivering a story that no other medium could execute... I'm on cloud nine.

The Man Who Grew his Beard - Six or seven short surreal stories. Sort of Dash Shaw ish but focused on smaller ideas. I thought every one of the stories was fun and I'll be re reading this a lot. It also sort of reminded me of Leviathan which I really enjoyed earlier this year.
b-one #5 - This issue contained the end of the first chapter of Apocalypse Meh, but I think I enjoyed the two page gag strips even more. Splooge ghost is ridiculous. I also really liked the three page "come back to me" strip. Very well done quiet story. It made me feel, haha.
Congress of Animals - Not my favorite Frank story I've read this winter break, but still thoroughly enjoyable. It was strange to not see Manhog anywhere in the story, although I'm very curious to see if Frank's new friend sticks around for new stories.
The Infinite - This comic is big, stupid fun. I really loved the first trade. I like the idea of a screw up time traveller. Not that he's incompetent, but Bo certainly isn't infallible. Fighting wars in the past is a cool idea, and I like the team that they've set up. The way the story is told (panel layouts etc) feel very, very 90's but not in a distracting way. In a, big action all the time, lets shoot some mfers in the head sort of way.
Indian Summer - Milo Manara is brilliant. A great story of the mythical old west, colonists fighting indians, puritans hating themselves, sex and violence and some of the most beautifully drafted characters I've seen in my life. Everyone should read more Manara.

I missed Locke & Key after reading finishing the 3rd HC so as the holidays ended I picked up Locke & Key Keys to the Kingdom HC & it didn't disappoint me. It was smart, funny & entertaining while the ending of this volume was as messed up by the reveal on the last few pages. Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodiguez mix & mold a masterpiece that shapes the reader's attention page after page & doesn't go. If you want a horror comic w/ lots of twists & turns and a few surprises than you can't go wrong by giving Locke & Key a chance. I give it a 4.5 stars out of 5 stars rating. Bring on vol. 5 HC Clockworks in the summer to see what happens ASAP. Matthew

Caught up on a bunch of single issues that had been piling up including the last two Matt Kindt drawn Sweet Tooth issues (which were fantastic), Fantastic Four #600, Chew, Red Wing, Batwoman, Frankenstein. All good stuff, I think I need to reread Red Wing now that it has finished, seems to be a better read as a trade to be digested all in one sitting but that could be me.
Read the first part of Lovestruck last night. Interesting premise, enjoying the art. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.

I read Red Wing in trade and mostly enjoyed it, kind of lost me at the end though. I'm not totally sure what went down or even if I'm supposed to know.

I started in on Neal Stephenson's Reamde thanks to the the sample on the Kindle. Cryptonomicon is one of my favorite books of the last 20 years, so I have been wanting to jump into this mammoth book for a while. I will probably buy the rest this weekend. Love it so far.

After hearing the gift giving podcast I dug City of Glass back out.
I enjoyed it much more the second time. I think I was kind of fooled by how elegantly the story is told. Nothing is rigid.

I read The Eyes of the Cat by Moebius and Jodorowsky last night. Aside from this being the largest book I have ever seen, the presentation is amazing and the story and more to the point, Moebius' art deserves that treatment. In the last year or so I have gotten hooked on Jodorwsky and the amazing art of Moebius. I want to read everything Moebius has ever drawn each time I open a new book from him I have never read before. Then I check online and see some of the prices... After Eyes of the Cat I started reading X-Men: Schism HC. Looking forward to seeing how this is done, I have high hopes with Aaron at the helm and what looks to be a cool list of artists doing each of the books. I try to stay away from any teasers or info so I can enjoy the X-Men books when I get them since I have moved over to reading them in collected editions.
