How was Air?

Yesterday I read the fourth story in Adele Blanc Sec (the second story in the second book).  I'm enjoying them more as I read more of them, but Tardi is absolutely being intentionally dense and complicated.  The nod to one of his other stories was cool and unexpected.

I also reread Kabuki The Alchemy for the billionth time.  The book is beautiful and an inspiration.  Anyone that makes comics should read through the Kabuki series.  I wish Mack were more prolific.

My complete re-read of the America's Best Comics line is trucking along nicely.

Yesterday I took on the first volume of this:

I think Yanick Paquette is astonishing with the artwork in this series. I can stare at his work for hours. Peter Hogan's script is sharp and since the series is co-plotted with Alan Moore his fingerprints are all over the story. The "science" heroes presented in this series come off as likable people who enjoy their adventures and companions, but I feel that down the road there could be massive trouble for everyone involved. So in a sense, I get a vibe that this must have been what the "Golden-age" was like for the characters in Watchmen ... In fact, I think Peter Hogan would be a great choice of writer for the up-coming Watchmen prequel.

I'll take on the second volume when I want a break from my next series ... the awesome ABC flagship title:

I can't wait to get through this series again. I love it so so so much.

@ Dave Faust, what did you think of Air?  I have read the first two volumes and have 3 and 4 sitting here in my ever growing regina pile.  I really liked what I read from the first two volumes but I felt that high concept and type of book it was led it down the path that most books of this ilk suffer from which was keeping a large enough audience to keep it going.  Perker's art on it was fantastic as well.  Interested to hear what you thought of it.

This is, I think, my fourth re-read of the series. For me, it's close to perfect. Great concepts, great characters, great art. I wish it could have run for a while longer, 50-60 issues, but what's here is just fantastic.

All good books from Koyama Press that are fun and a little crazy. I get surprised in a different way with these compared to superhero comics. These comics is more of "What the hell was that?" "How the...". Enjoyed three different books from them which is impressive to me. Almost considered them for publisher of the year in the 11 O'Closars.

I just read OMAC #5. OMAC vs. Frankenstien. C'mon, that's what a single issue should be! BTW, I finished trade 3 of Hellboy and I'm truly entertained. I never realized that the trades were a bunch of short stories that develop the Hellboy world rather than one continous story.

After the last podcast I reread Weathercraft and Congress of Animals. Jim Woodring is a mad genius.  I love the Frank books.

Avengers 19. Between Cap getting pissed and splitting the team up into perfect two man attack squads and a group of Hulked out Hydra agents shouting HAIL HAMMER, it was a really great issue. And damn, that Acuna can draw some pretty pictures.

I just finished American Vampire vol 1 and i was blown away with how well developed the characters were. Skinner Sweet is the kind of villian I enjoy reading the most because his motivations are never clear and you never know what he's going to do in a given situation which makes him the best kind of dangerous. Pearl and Henry are the couple that you pull for because nothing is easy for them.James "Jim" Book is the classic tragic hero i could see Clint Eastwoods voice when he talks. All in all I really enjoyed it. Rafael Albuquerque's art fits so well with King and Snyder's writing. Because of the cartoony style Rafael can show more of the gruesome parts without it being to much. Im ready to dig into the next arc.

I took a break from my re-read of Tom Strong  Hearts to enjoy the ORIGINAL Flashpoint series. It was an elseworlds joint.

I'm a well documented Norm Breyfogle enthusist, so it should come as no surprise that I have to sing the praise of Norm as a "Flash" artist. I couldn't find all sweet visuals on the internet, but here's three to give you a taste:

Yes, I know ...

You're welcome.
