Picked up Y the Last Man when it was on sale over at comixology. i've read the first 14 issues, i realise this isn't new to just about anyone, but this book is really good, when i read something like this that really grabs me and the quality is so high it makes me realise just how bad some of the books i read on a month to month basis are.

Dave, you must read as fast as Superman. I don't know how you fit it all in.
I'm on vacation until March, so I have tons of free time.

I have been making a concerted effort in the last week or two to play a little less Skyrim and put a bigger dent in my Regina pile. I have read some great stuff.
Parker: The Score. This was awesome, I loved how Cooke did some of the chapters and told the story through small panel/picture pages. It almost had an Oceans' 11 type feel to it. As always, his artwork is beautiful. I need to get the Martini edition to see this book in all its glory. Such a good read.
The Fracture of a Universal Boy Michael Zulli's epic book that took years in the making. First off when you get the book it is a beautiful presentation, oversized hardcover with a illustrated inlay on the cover. The book bobs and weaves like you would expect it to and certainly deserves multiple rereads as there is so much to digest. Zulli's art is truly amazing as is the weight of so few words he puts on the pages. This book will make you think and isn't for a quick read through but the type of book that will creep back into your mind at later points of your day to make you think about it again and stunning images that will reamin with you for a long time.
The Walking Dead vols 8 and 9 As a father of two young girls this book just gut punches me and I assume most parents time and time again. I feel emotionally drained after reading these trades and Kirkman is a master of the emotional manipulation. I often curse him for what he is doing on these pages at the same time truly enjoying this book for what it is and how well it is put together.
Kamandi Omnibus vol 1 I wasn't sure what to expect from this, I bought it on the recommendation from Vince and most people who speak so highly of Kirby but to be honest did not know what to expect. I don't have a whole lot of stuff from Kirby, his marvel stuff was before my time and I am just now going back and reading those early books from him and Stan but Kamandi instantly hooked me. The stories are so deep and rich and it amazes me how well Kirby captures the movement/kinetics in each panel. You can feel the energy and action seeping out of the book and it makes for such an enjoyable read.
Ivy I can't remember if I heard about this from the ISR guys or someone on this forum but this is by Sarah Oleksyk and is a HC of her Ivy minicomics and published by Oni. I guess you could throw out "slice of life" or maybe even "coming of age" in a sense as descriptors but this is just a down to earth story about a girl finding her way in high school and dealing with all the bs that comes with being a teen, establishing who you are as an individual and taking that next step into college/the real world. I really like Sarah's art and she really brings you along for the ride where you feel for Ivy and also get frustrated by her actions. Exactly what you would expect from a teen. I really like taking a step back from the capes and cowl book types to read something like this.

I think that's a nice thing to have happen. Sometimes you need things like this to crystallize how we can waste our attention on lesser things. Not that everything you read needs to be amazing, but there really is no need to read a bunch of "just ok" books, when there are so many good to great things out there to be read. According to your tastes of course.

Just picked that up over the holidays at half price books - Really enjoyed it! I find that I forget about Talbot alot. He's put out some really amazing work, but he's rarely on the tip of my tongue when I tell other people about how good comics can and should be; so everynow and then i find a gem like this one and i'm wowed all over again!

Last week I read Unwritten Vol 2, The Stand Vol 3 and Uncanny X-Force Vol 1. I'm also finishing up my bound edition of Simonson's Thor 337-359.

Read my DCBS box. Quick highlights: Captain Atom 5One of my favorite books, month in, month out. I may be the only one reading this book but I'll be double dipping on the trade as well. The Freddie Williams art is fantastic, and the I love the idea of this deity level super being going around trying to save the world. I hope this book gets a good long run. This Captain Atom feels much more Dr. Manhattan like than a super-hero book. The influence has come around full circle. I never hear anyone talking about this book and that means a lot of people are missing out. Usagi Yojimbo 143This was the first issue I read when I opened my box, and I've read it twice more since Friday. Sakai has been doing these understated beautiful samurai tales for years and it's just a joy to take in. His line work is open and and free, the comic feels quiet some how. Sakai also drops some knowledge on how high quality soy sauce was made and throws in a couple action scenes and sets up the conflict for next issue's dramatic conclusion. It's amazing that he has been telling stories for so long, and hasn't fallen on decompression tropes of the new guard. Justice League 5Speaking of decompression Justice League has been building since the new 52's inception for this meeting. We got some cool action last issue but this issue was a non stop fight between the Justice League and Darkseid. I really enjoyed this issue, they still stretch everything out (we get 6 pages of Flash and Superman running from Darkseid) but it feels crazy cinematic and epic when they're in the middle of battle (another 6 pages are devoted to GL getting his ass beat by Darkseid). I think it's interesting and kind of smart to have another moment between Green Lantern and Batman, it recalls their meeting in issue one and puts the two movie franchise characters front in center in this new Justice League's inception. And the closer of really just pulls on the heart strings of my 4th World fanboy.

This is random, but Shadowhawk#1.
Reading this because a few weeks ago somebody sent me a bobo copy of the issue I ordered, so taking the opportunity to give it a whirl again and see how it holds up and possibly share if something jumps out at me.
